Volleyball Travels To DePaul And No. 19 Marquette

The Friars will start the weekend against DePaul on Friday, Sept. 30 at 8:00 p.m. (ET)

PROVIDENCE, R.I.— The Providence College volleyball team heads to DePaul and No. 19 Marquette this weekend for a pair of BIG EAST matches. The Friars will face the Blue Demons on Friday, Sept. 30 at 8:00 p.m. (ET) in Chicago, Ill., before traveling to Milwaukee Wis. to play the nationally ranked Golden Eagles on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7:00 p.m. (ET).
 
SCOUTING THE FRIARS…The Friars head into the weekend with an overall record of 8-6 and a BIG EAST record of 0-2. Providence most recently faced St. John's and Seton Hall on Sept. 2-3. The Friars fell to St. John's in straight sets before dropping a five-set match to the Pirates.
 
Kayla Grant (Rowlett, Texas) continues to be an offensive asset for the Friars as the sophomore middle blocker has led the BIG EAST in hitting percentage through the month of September. She is hitting .386 through 56 sets. Grant has notched 111 kills so far this season, including eight in the Friars' BIG EAST opening weekend. The middle blocker leads the team in blocks, with 41 block assists and six solo blocks on the season.
 
Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) leads the Friars in points with 174.5, averaging 3.12 points per set. Mullally has remained an all-around player for Providence through the two conference matches last weekend after recording 26 assists, 20 digs, 19 kills, five block assists and five service aces. The senior currently leads the BIG EAST in services aces per set (.46).
 
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.), the Friars' defensive specialist, has also been a key player for the Friars. Taylor leads Providence in digs (282) and her 5.04 digs per set ranks third in the BIG EAST. The graduate student has also added 60 assists and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in service aces per set (.39) and has totaled 22 this season.
 
Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) leads the Friars in kills (139) after adding a team-best 11 kills in last Saturday's match against Seton Hall and a total of 16 kills over the weekend. The senior has 16 blocks for the Friars and has recorded a team-best three solo blocks in conference play.
 
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEMONS… DePaul enters this weekend with a 0-2 BIG EAST record and is 4-10 overall. The Blue Demons went 0-2 last weekend after falling to No. 19 Marquette in straight sets and Butler in four. DePaul was selected third in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Jill Pressly leads DePaul's attack with 3.45 kills per set, ranking third in the conference. Pressly has posted six double-doubles through 13 matches.
 
Junior Rachel Krasowski is second in the league in digs with 280, averaging 5.09 digs per set.
 
Sophomore Aly Kindelberger has picked up 59 total blocks (51 block assists and eight solo blocks). Her 1.07 blocks per set ranks fifth in the BIG EAST.
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES… No. 19 Marquette enters the weekend ranked No. 1 in the BIG EAST after posting an 11-1 overall record (2-0 in the BIG EAST). Last weekend in BIG EAST play, the Golden Eagles defeated DePaul in straight sets and Butler in four. Marquette was ranked second in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll and is riding a nine-game win streak.
 
Junior Aubrey Hamilton leads the team with 142 kills (2.88 kills/set) and earned a Weekly Honor Roll nod going into BIG EAST play.
 
Sophomore Yadhira Anchante is third in the conference in assists per set with 10.27 and sixth in service aces per set (.38). The setter earned a BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after the start of BIG EAST play, after hitting .542 on 24 attempts.
 
Junior Carsen Murray ranks second in the BIG EAST in hitting percentage, hitting .383 and third in blocks per set (1.11). In the Golden Eagles' BIG EAST opening weekend, Murray notched 18 kills and nine blocks (3 solo blocks and six block assists).
 
WHAT'S NEXT… Providence will return to Alumni Hall for a four-game homestand, hosting Xavier on Friday Oct. 7 at 6:00 p.m. before facing Creighton on Saturday, Oct. 8. The following weekend, the Friars will welcome Georgetown and Villanova for a pair of matches.
