PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University on Friday, Sept. 30. The race will be held at the Murray Goodman Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pa. It will commence with the men's race at 11:00 a.m., followed by the women's race at 11:45 a.m. The Friar women enter the race ranked 15th nationally and first in the Northeast Region. The men's team comes in ranked fifth in the Northeast Region.

The women will be led by senior
Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) and junior
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England). In the first meet of the season (Friar Invitational), Tuck and Flockhart finished first (17:16.42) and second (17:30.46), respectively. Junior
Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland), Freshman Niamh O'Mahony (Kerry, Ireland) and Senior
Halle Atkinson (Franklin, Mass.) also finished strong for the Friars, placing fourth (17:49.54), fifth (17:50.36), and 11th (18:28.88), respectively.

On the women's side, they will be competing against 46 teams, including several nationally ranked teams - No. 11 North Carolina, No. 18 Georgetown, No. 25 Ohio State, and No. 27 Utah Valley.

Making their season debuts will be freshman
Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland) and sophomore
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand).

One of the top returners for the Friar men will be graduate student
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.). Rocha finished fourth at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships on Oct. 29, 2021 in a time of 24:22.7. Rocha also represented the Friars as an individual qualifier at the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida, where he placed 61st in a time of 29:25.8. Also expected to score for the Friars is sophomore Abel Laadjel (Lucan, Ireland) and junior
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand). Back finished first for the Friar men and third overall at the Friar Invitational with a time of 24:40.84. Sophomore
Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland), junior
Shane Coffey (Naas, Ireland), and graduate student David Principe, JR. (Johnston, R.I) will also assist in keeping the Friars competitive.

On the men's side, they will compete against 46 teams, including, nationally ranked No. 13 North Carolina and No. 17 Georgetown.

Following the Paul Short Invitational, the men's and women's team will race next on Friday, Oct. 14 at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invite.
