PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Friars will host the St. Lawrence Saints this weekend for the first two games of the season on Friday, Sept. 23 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 24 at 3:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena.
Scouting the Friars
Providence returns top scorer,
Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.), who posted 11 goals and six assists last season. Offensive threat
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) also returns to the lineup. Bochna tallied nine goals and 10 assists last season for a team-high 19 points in her sophomore season.
The Friars return top defensemen
Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and
Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine). Becker totaled two goals and 10 assists last season, making her third in total points amongst returners. DeBlois had one goal and 11 assists last season.
In net,
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) returns for Providence. Abstreiter started in 27 of the 36 games last season and tallied a career high of 802 saves. She had a 9.45 save percentage and a 1.73 goals against average.
Hockey East Preseason Poll
The Friars were picked to finish fourth in the Hockey East Preseason Poll, which was released on Tuesday, Sept. 13. Providence received 61 points and was picked to finish behind Northeastern (90), Vermont (79) and Boston College (76). The Huskies, who won the 2022 Hockey East Tournament, received nine first place votes.
Rounding out the poll was Boston University (59), UConn (53), Maine (39), New Hampshire (38), Merrimack (26) and Holy Cross (19).
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence welcomes seven new players (three transfers and four freshmen) to the roster for the 2022-23 season.
Noemi Neubauerova (Prague, Czech Republic) is a graduate student from Colgate University.
Ida Press (Uppsala, Sweden) is a graduate student from University of Maine.
Rachel Weiss (Calgary, Canada) is a junior from Penn State. The four freshmen are Mégane Quirion (Saint-Eustahce, Quebec),
Kayla Kutes (Kirkland, Wa.),
Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) and
Cristina Cavaliere (Mississauga, Ontario).

Scouting the Saints
The Saints finished the 2021-22 season with a 15-15-7 overall record. Saints return top players Abby Hustler and Aly McLeod, who led St. Lawrence in points last season with 28 and 22, respectively. St. Lawrence is also returning their starting goaltender, Lucy Morgan, who rounded out the 2021-22 season with a .939 save percentage and a 1.76 goals against average.
All-Time Series with the Saints
Providence leads the current all-time series record with the Saints 24-8-6. The last time the Friars faced off against St. Lawrence was in 2011.
