ARLINGTON, Texas – The Providence College volleyball team defeated North Texas in five sets on Friday, September 2 at the UTA Classic in Arlington, Texas.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence took set one, 25-23.
- The Friars went on an 11-1 run in the middle of the set to separate themselves from North Texas.
- North Texas battled back to cut the lead to two but the Friars maintained their lead.

Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) paced the Friars offensively with five kills and a team-best kill percentage (.417).

Sammie Ruggles (North Olmstead, Ohio) added 11 assists.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence edged out the Mean Green in set two, 28-26.
- There were 12 ties and six lead changes that pushed the set beyond regulation.

Kayla Grant (Rowlett, Texas) registered a solo block giving her three total blocks in the match.
- Ruggles tallied 12 assists, bringing her total to 23 in the match.

Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) recorded six digs with
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) and
Caroline LaMacchia (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) each collecting three.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: North Texas rallied back to take the third set, 25-16.
- The Mean Green led the set wire-to-wire.
- Grant recorded two kills, bringing her total to six in the match.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: North Texas took the fourth set, 25-14.
- The Mean Green kept their momentum and led the set from start to finish.
- Providence went on a 5-0 scoring run mid-set to come within six, but the Mean Green held their lead.
- Ruggles contributed four assists.
FIFTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars won the fifth set, 15-13.
- The Friars and Mean Green battled back-and-forth in the fifth set with six ties and three lead changes.
- Rhoden lead the Friars with six kills and Ruggles added five assists.
- Ruggles and Mullally contributed four and three digs, respectively.
MATCH NOTES:
- The Friars concluded the match with 52 kills and 73 digs.
- Ruggles posted her fifth-consecutive double-double with 39 assists and 14 digs.
- The Friars improved to 4-1 on the season.
