ARLINGTON, Texas – The Providence College volleyball team fell to UT Arlington in five sets on Saturday, September 3 at the UTA Classic in Arlington, Texas.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence took the first set, 25-18.

Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) and
Kayla Grant (Rowlett, Texas) combined for eight total kills.

Sammie Ruggles (North Olmstead, Ohio) registered 11 assists.

Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) and
Jiji Lykins (Virginia Beach, Va.) combined for seven digs.
- Providence recorded five team service aces.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: UT Arlington claimed set two, 26-24.
- The set contained twelve ties and five lead changes.
- Nelson added seven kills taking her total into double digits (11).
- Ruggles collected 17 assists, giving her 28 in the match.
- Taylor and Lykins added five digs apiece giving them, eight and nine digs, respectfully.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Mavericks edged out the Friars in set three, 28-26.
- The largest lead of the set was when the Friars were up 21-17.
- There were 10 ties and five lead changes.

Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) and
Sasha Rudich (Austin, Texas) each tallied two block assists giving them three apiece in the match.

Kayla Grant (Rowlett, Texas) added three kills, giving her 11 in the match at a .400 hitting percentage.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence battled back to take set four, 25-23.
- Ruggles notched five digs and two blocks to bring her to double-digit digs and putting her on the board for blocks.
- Grant added four kills to take her to 15 with a .556 kill percentage.
FIFTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: UT Arlington took set five, 15-11.
- Two Friars, Grant and Rudich had a kill percentage of at least .500.
MATCH NOTES:
- Three Friars, Grant, Nelson and Mullally had double-digit kills.
- Taylor led the team in digs with 21.
- Ruggles posted a double-double with a career-high 53 assists and 14 digs.
- The Friars closed out the tournament with a 2-1 mark.
WHAT'S NEXT… The Friars will return home to host The 17th Annual Friar Volleyball Classic on September 9-10. The tournament will consist of six matches over two days. The teams joining the Friars include Saint Peter's, NJIT and Holy Cross. Providence will open the tournament against Saint Peter's on Friday Sept. 9 at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 10, the Friars will take on NJIT at 1:30 p.m. before closing the tournament against Holy Cross at 5:30 p.m.
