PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team defeated Holy Cross in straight sets to close out the 17
th Annual Friar Volleyball Classic on Sept. 10 in Providence, R.I. The Friars claimed the tournament title with a 3-0 record.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence took set one, 25-22.
- After a strong start from the Crusaders, Providence rallied back to tie the set, 11-11.
- The Friars remained solid through the set with key plays made by
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) to keep the lead.
- Taylor paced the Friars defensively, collecting eight digs.

Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) registered five kills.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars dominated set two, 25-11.
- The Friars maintained the lead for the majority of the set.
- Taylor notched five more digs, reaching double-digits in the match.

Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) and Rhoden recorded three kills apiece.

Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) and
Sammie Ruggles (North Olmsted, Ohio) accounted for seven assists.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence closed out the victory with a 25-9 victory in the third.
- The Friars led the Crusaders in the set wire-to-wire.
- Mullally tallied four kills. Nelson and Grant added three apiece.
- Taylor collected three digs for a team-best 16 in the match.
- Ruggles notched six assists, giving her 15 in the match.
MATCH NOTES:
- Mullally posted a double-double with 11 assists and 10 digs.
- Both Mullally and Nelson notched eight kills apiece, hitting a team-best .333.
- Rhoden led the team in kills and block assists with nine and four, respectfully.

Kayla Grant added five kills and three block assists.
- The Friars went 3-0 on the weekend.

WHAT'S NEXT… The Friars will head to Philadelphia on September 16
th for the Penn Invitational. Providence will play Temple University, George Washington University and University of Pennsylvania. Following this tournament, the Friars will begin BIG EAST play at St. John's on Sept. 23 at 7:00 p.m.
