Cooley is one of four Finalist for the prestigious honor.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced today (March 21) that Providence College Head Coach Ed Cooley was named one of four Finalists for the Werner Ladder Naismith Coach Of The Year Award. Cooley joins Mark Adams (Texas Tech), Greg Gard (Wisconsin) and Tommy Lloyd (Arizona) as Finalists. The winner of this prestigious honor will be announced on April 3 at the Final Four.

On March 10, Cooley became the first Friar coach to earn BIG EAST Coach of the Year. Cooley has guided the Friars to a 27-5 mark. Cooley became just the seventh coach in league history, and first since 2012, to earn BIG EAST Coach of the Year honors without having a player earn All-BIG EAST First Team accolades. In BIG EAST league play, the Friars set a program record for wins after registering a 14-3 mark and capturing the program's first BIG EAST Regular Season title. The Friars, who finished in first place, were picked to finish seventh in the annual BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll which was released in October.  Last week, Cooley was named NABC District 5 Coach of the Year and USBWA District 1 Coach of the Year. Cooley also has been named National Coach of the Year by The Sporting News and The Field of 68.

Cooley's Friars are ranked No. 13/13 in the final national polls and have been ranked for 14-consecutive weeks. The Friars earned an at-large selection to the 2022 NCAA Tournament as a No. 4 seed. Providence is making its 21st appearance overall in the NCAA Tournament and sixth appearance under Cooley. The Friars' No. 4 seed is the highest in program history. With two wins over South Datoka State and Richmond in the First and Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, the Friars have advanced to the Sweet 16 for first time since the 1996-97 season and the sixth time overall.
The Friars won a team-record, eight-consecutive BIG EAST games this season. They also have posted 20 or more wins for the sixth time under Cooley. The 27 victories is the highest win total during Cooley's 11 seasons at Providence. It also marks the most victories in a single season since 1973-74 (28-4). Additionally, Cooley led the team to a 16-1 record at home, which is the squad's best mark since 1973-74 (16-0).

The No. 4-seed Friars will face No. 1-seed Kansas in the Midwest Regional Semifinals (Sweet 16) of the 2022 NCAA Tournament. The game will be played on Friday, March 25 at the United Center in Chicago, Ill. Tip-off is set for 7:15 PM (ET.) on TBS.
