Puck Drop
Providence will play Holy Cross in a home-and-home series on Saturday, Feb. 5 and Sunday, Feb. 6. The Friars will host the Crusaders at Schneider Arena on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. puck drop, followed by a 2:00 p.m. start in Worcester, Mass. on Sunday for the series finale.
Earlier This Season Against Holy Cross
The Friars and Crusaders met this past Tuesday, Feb. 1, with Providence prevailing 4-1.
Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) scored twice for the Friars, with one goal on the power play.
Hunter Barnett (Caledon, Ontario) and
Ashley Clark (North Weymouth, Mass.) also scored for the Friars. Barnett's goal came on the power play while Clark's goal, the first of her collegiate career, was an empty net in the final minutes of play.
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) made 37 saves in net for the Friars. The win broke a seven-straight losing streak for the Friars.
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are currently 9-12-5 overall and 5-11-2 in Hockey East play.).
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) and
Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) lead the charge offensively for the Friars with 15 points each, both off of six goals and nine assists. Peterson follows the two with 12 points (seven goals, five assists).
Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine) leads the team in blocks (42) and is followed up by Lunny who has registered 39 total blocks.
Providence has 19 different players in the line-up with at least a point. Eighteen different players have posted an assists, while sixteen players have found the back of the net.
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) and
Mireille Kingsley (Sudbury, Ontario) have split time in net for the Friars. Abstreiter has seen 17 starts and has recorded a 1.88 goals against average and .941 save percentage over that time. Kingsley has nine starts in net for Providence and holds a 1.65 goals against average and .939 save percentage.
Scouting the Crusaders
The Crusaders enter the game at 3-23 (1-20 HEAW). Holy Cross is coming off of a 1-4 loss against Providence College at home. As a team, they average 1.3 goals per game and is 7/88 on the power play and 19/88 on the penalty kill.
Who to Watch
Leading the team in points is senior Carlie Magier, who has tallied 11 points off of five goals and six assists. She is followed up by Darci Johal, who leads the Crusaders in goals (six) and has a total 10 points and Millie Sirum who has nine.
Jada Brenon has played 20 games in net this season. She holds a 3.62 goals against average, a .901 save percentage and a 2-17-0 record.
