Puck Drop
The seventh-seeded Friars are set to host the tenth-seeded Holy Cross Crusaders in the Opening Round of the 2022 Hockey East Tournament this Wednesday, Feb. 23. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena.
Scouting the Friars
The Friars concluded the regular season 15-13-6 overall and 12-12-3 in Hockey East play. The Friars open the tournament as the No. 7 seed in the tournament, while the Crusaders will serve as the No. 10 seed. It will be the first-ever post season meeting between the Friars and the Crusaders. Providence has never lost to Holy Cross during the Crusaders' four-year tenure in the Hockey East, posting a perfect 12-0-0 mark. This season, the teams have met over three-consecutive games, including back-to-back overtime victories for Providence. The Friars are 19-21 all-time in Hockey East Tournament play.
Bochna and Lunny lead the charge offensively for the Friars with 19 points each, with Bochna's off of nine goals and 10 assists and Lunny's coming from seven goals and a team-high 12 assists.
Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) has a team-high 10 goals on the season. Defensively, sophomore
Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.) leads the team in blocks, with 55. She is followed by
Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine) who has recorded 54 blocks. DeBlois has also made an extensive contribution offensively, with 10 assists.
Abstreiter has made 25 starts in net. She holds a .946 save percentage and a 1.70 goals against average. The netminder has made 757 total saves and has 3 shutouts.
Earlier This Season Against Holy Cross
The Friars and Crusaders met this three times during the regular season, in three consecutive matches, with the Friars claiming the win in all three meetings. Providence defeated Holy Cross, 4-1, in their first meeting of the season before entering clinching two overtime victories.
Last Time Out
Providence finished the regular season with a home-and-home series against Boston University. In game one in Schneider Arena the Friars tied the Terriers, 1-1, through regulation and overtime. The Friars earned the extra point in the Hockey East standings after shootout goals from
Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) and
Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.).
Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) scored the lone goal is regulation on the power play with assists from Hjalmarsson and Peterson. In the series finale the following night, the teams entered extra time for the second game in a row.
Isabelle Hardy (Oakville, Ontario) scored the game-winning goal 3:36 into overtime to finish the 2022 regular season with a win.
Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.) scored the lone goal for the Friars during regulation on the power play.

Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) was announced as a finalist for the Women's Hockey Goalie of the Year Award on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
Scouting the Crusaders
Holy Cross finished the regular season at 3-29 overall with a 1-26 record in conference, finishing tenth in Hockey East. Last weekend the Crusaders fell to Merrimack, 1-3, before falling to the Warriors, 2-3, in overtime in the series finale. As a team, the Crusaders average 1.4 goals per game and allow 3.7. They convent on 9.3% of power plays and kill off 80.4% of penalties.
Who to Watch
Junior Darci Johal leads Holy Cross offensively with 15 points. She has a team-leading 11 goals with four assists. Johal is followed by Lilly Feeney who has tallied 12 points off of two goals and a team-high 10 assists.
Jada Brenon leads Holy Cross in net with 26 starts. She has a 3.44 goals against average and a .905 save percentage.
