Women’s Hockey Closes Out 2021-22 Regular Season With Series Against Boston University

Puck Drop
The Friars will close out the 2021-22 regular season Hockey East play against the Boston University Terriers in a home-and-home series this weekend. The Friars will host game one in Schneider Arena on Friday, Feb. 17 as they honor graduating members of the team. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The Friars will travel to Boston the following day on Saturday, Feb. 18 for the series finale at 5:00 p.m.

Last Time Out
This Tuesday, the Friars traveled to North Andover, Mass. for a Hockey East road matchup against Merrimack. The Friars shutout the Warriors 3-0. Netminder Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) recorded 32 saves during the contest to keep Merrimack off the board. Ashley Clark (North Weymouth, Mass.), Ciara Barone (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Delaney Couture (Shrewsbury, Mass.) all scored for the Friars in the contest.
 
This past weekend, Providence split the series against the UConn Huskies, 1-1. Last Friday, the Friars traveled to Storrs, Conn. Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) and Ashley Clark (North Weymouth, Mass.) both scored for the Friars with Bochna tallying her ninth goal of the season. Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) recorded 29 saves during the contest while the Friars outshot the Huskies, 31-30.
 
Saturday the Friars hosted UConn in Schneider Arena but were unable to get on the board as they were blanked, 0-2. Abstreiter recorded 35 saves for a .972 save percentage.
  
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are currently 14-13-5 overall and 11-12-2 in Hockey East play.
 
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) and Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) lead the charge offensively for the Friars, with 18 points apiece. Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) is the team leader in goals (ten) and has 15 total points. Providence has 20 different players in the line-up with at least a point. Eighteen different players have posted assists, while seventeen players have found the back of the net.
 
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) has made 23 starts in net. She holds a .944 save percentage and a 1.77 goals against average. The netminder has made 691 total saves and has recorded ten wins with three shutouts.
 
Earlier This Season Against Boston University
The Friars and Terriers have once this season on Oct. 31. Boston University defeated the Friars, 2-1, after scoring two first period goals. Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) scored for the Friars in the third period but were unable to find the equalizer.
 
Scouting the Terriers
Boston University is 12-13-5 overall and 11-8-4 in Hockey East play. The Terriers are currently ranked fifth in the Hockey East. This past Tuesday, Feb. 15, Boston defeated Maine in overtime, 3-2.
 
Who to Watch
Boston University's offense is lead by Courtney Correia. Correia has tallied 21 points on the season through 12 goals and nine assists. She is followed by Julia Nearis and Mackenna Parker who have recorded 19 and 16 points, respectively.
 
Kate Stuart and Callie Shanahan have split time in net for the Terriers. Stuart holds a 2.28 goals against average with a .922 save percentage while Shanahan has a 2.49 goals against average and a 9.22 save percentage.
