Max Crozier scored his first goal of the season 3:00 into overtime as the No. 9 Providence College men's hockey team edged Vermont, 4-3, at Schneider Arena on Saturday night.
- Providence carried the play in the opening period, outshooting Vermont by a 15-5 margin.
- It was the Catamounts that opened the scoring however, as Robbie Stucker's power-play goal with 9.9 seconds left in the period gave the visitors a 1-0 lead.
- The teams combined for four goals in the opening 6:50 of play in the second period, capped by Providence's three-goal outburst in a span of 3:37 to take a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.

Patrick Moynihan briefly tied the game at 1-1 with his fifth of the season before Vermont's Joel Maatta re-gained the Catamount lead just 1:01 later.
- Only 23 seconds after that,
Brett Berard blocked a shot at the defensive blue line and beat Autio with a highlight-reel deke on a breakaway to tie the game at 2-2. The goal was Berard's sixth of the season.
- 2:13 later,
Chase Yoder netted his fifth goal of the season after finishing off a centering pass from
Liam Valente to put Providence up 3-2.
- Vermont tied things up early in the third as Jacques Bouquot banked a shot from behind the net off of Roden and in to make it a 3-3 game.
- Berard was shaken up after a cross-check from UVM's Joe Leahy sent him heavily into the boards. Providence couldn't convert on the power play.
- The Friars advanced to the overtime period for the sixth time in the last nine games.
Nick Poisson rang a crossbar in the opening minute and Berard was denied on a breakaway by Autio to keep the extra session going.

Bennett Schimek forced a turnover and feed
Max Crozier out in the slot as he chipped a one-handed shot through the legs of Autio for the game-winner and his first of the season to secure the 4-3 win.

Senior
Patrick Moynihan is second among all active NCAA players with 22 career power-play goals, including a game-winning markers on the power play against Sacred Heart, Clarkson and Northeastern. Moynihan's three game-winning goals are second in the NCAA and match his previous total over a combined 89 career games entering the 2022-23 season.

Max Crozier and
Parker Ford as the team's co-captains for the 2022-23 season. Both players were alternate captains last season.

Berard Named Hockey East Player of the Week
The junior forward posted a goal and an assist in each victory over Vermont last weekend, including the game-winning goal on Friday night in Providence's 4-0 win over the Catamounts. Berard followed that up with a breakaway goal off a blocked shot and another assist in the Friars' 4-3 overtime win on Saturday. He finished the weekend with a +4 rating.
In the month of November, Berard has five multi-point efforts in six games and six goals and five assists over that span.

Providence ices the sixth youngest roster in the NCAA with an average age of 21.1 years and has a combined 16 first and second year players out of a 29-player roster.

Series History vs. St. Lawrence (PC leads 27-23-0, .540)
The Friars and Saints meet for the 51st time on Friday night and the first time since 2019. The Friars have won three straight in the series, scoring six goals each in those three games in 2016, 2017 and 2019. St. Lawrence's last win in the series came on Oct. 12, 2007 where they scored a 4-1 win at Appleton Arena.
Scouting the Saints...
St. Lawrence enters the weekend at 5-6-0 overall and 2-2-0 in ECAC play. Last weekend's contest at Niagara was postponed due to the snowstorm in Buffalo area. The Saints last played on Nov. 11-12, where they dropped games to Cornell and Colgate, respectively. They are 0-3-0 in the road this season, getting shut-out in all three games. Seniors Jordan Steinmetz and Tim Makowski pace the team in scoring with five points. Junior defenseman Luc Salem leads with three goals and 23 different players have recorded at least a point this season. In goal, graduate student Emil Zetterquist has appeared in all 11 games, recording a 2.63 GAA and .899 save percentage.

Series History vs. Brown (PC leads 54-46-3, .540)
The teams will battle in the 36th Mayor's Cup on Saturday night at Schneider Arena. The Friars have claimed the Mayor's Cup six-consecutive times, including a 4-0 win at Meehan Auditorium in the team's last meeting on Nov. 27, 2021. Providence has won six-consecutive games in the series (the teams met at the Ledyard Classic at Dartmouth in 2018), outscoring the Bears by a 27-4 margin.
Scouting the Bears...
The Bears are at 1-6-1 overall entering Friday afternoon's matchup against Holy Cross. Cole Quisenberry, Ryan Bottrill and Matt Sutton lead the Bears in scoring with four points each. Quisenberry, Bradley Cocca and James Crossman each have a team-high two goals. Sophomore Mathieu Caron has logged all minutes in goal for the Bears, posting a 2.84 GAA and .915 save percentage.
