Men’s Soccer Defeats Creighton, 4-2, on Chapey Field In Regular-Season Finale

The Friars qualified as the No. 5 seed and will travel to Butler for the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  The Providence College men's soccer team defeated Creighton, 4-2, on Wednesday, Nov. 2 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. With the win, the Friars clinched the No. 5 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament and will play on the road at No. 4 seed Butler on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7:00 p.m.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- The Friars had a strong start with two goals in the first 13 minutes of action.
- Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.) notched his first goal of the season out of the gate, getting the ball to the back of the net in the 7th minute.
- Armaan Wilson (Kleinburg, Ontario) followed suit, giving the Friars a 2-0 lead in the 13th minute off a dish from Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.).
- Creighton responded in the 29th minute after converting on a penalty kick after a Friar foul.
- The Friars brought the lead back to two after a shot from Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.) deflected off Ramzi Qawasmy (Lansdale, Pa.) into the Bluejay net.
- Despite the Bluejays outshooting the Friars 10-6 in the first half, the Friars maintained their 3-1 lead into the second half.
-  Creighton's Mark O'Neil received a red card in the 57th minute, giving the Friars an 11-on-10 advantage for the rest of the game.
- The second half remained scoreless until the 68th minute when Diarbian made a nearly full-field break past the Bluejay defense to notch the fourth Friar goal of the game.
- Callum Watson made a late push in the 75th minute to cut Creighton's deficit to two.
- The Friar defense was able to remain strong against Creighton's 16 total shots (11 landing on goal), spearheaded by Rimi Olatunji (Brampton, Ontario), who made a season-high nine saves.

(1-0) – 6:45/1stKevin Vang got the shot off from the top of the box to the top right corner of the net to put the Friars on the board.
(2-0) – 12:24/1stArmaan Wilson converted on a through-ball from Diarbian after a throw in from Gil Santos (Parede, Portugal) hit the middle of the box.
(2-1) – 28:59/1st – Duncan McGuire converted on a penalty kick after a Friar foul.
(3-1) – 34:09/1st – A shot from Brendan McSorley deflected off of Qawasmy to get past the keeper for the third Friar goal.
