STILLWATER, Okla. – The Providence College women's cross country team finished 16th overall with 468 points at the 2022 NCAA Women's Cross Country Championship on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla. The Friar women's squad was led by freshman Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland) as she placed 49th overall in a time of 20:16.2 over the 6K course and scored in the 42nd spot. The last time a Friar finished in the top-50 at the championship was in 2015 when Sarah Mary Collins finished 20th and current assistant coach Cat Rocha placed 39th.
"I am very happy with the way they ran today," Head Coach Ray Treacy said. "I thought the best they could do coming in was 15th and we were one point off that, so it was a fantastic run for them. They all ran really well. It was probably the best race of the season. All top-five are coming back next year, so I'm looking forward to next year already."
In addition to Buckley, the other Friars who scored were sophomore Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England), sophomore Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand), senior Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada), and freshman Niamh O'Mahony (Kerry, Ireland). Flockhart scored in the 57th spot (20:24.4) and May was 112 (20:51.3). Tuck (128 – 20:57.8) and O'Mahony (129 - 20:58.3) rounded out the scoring for the Friars. There were 253 female runners competing.
The Friar women's squad made its second consecutive appearance and 30th overall at the NCAA Championship.
On the men's side, graduate student Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) ran as individual and finished in 73rd in a time 29:58.2 out of 252 male runners.
