Last Time Out...
- Max Crozier recorded a career-high four assists but No. 7 UConn rallied for a 6-6 tie against the No. 9 Providence College men's hockey team on Saturday afternoon at the XL Center.
- Providence rushed out to a 2-0 lead just 5:17 into the game as Nick Poisson and Brett Berard found the back of the net.
- Poisson netted his second of the season on a one-timer just as a power play expired. Berard and Crozier earned the assists.
- Berard then made it 2-0 Friars after he forced a turnover off a faceoff and beat Sergeev with a backhander at 5:17.
- Bennett Schimek made it a 3-0 Providence lead with his second of the season at 14:18.
- UConn's Ryan Tverberg scored late in the first period to cut the Friar lead to 3-1.
- Back-to-back goals from John Spetz and Matthew Wood drew the Huskies even at 3-3 at 14:43 of the second period.
- Freshman Liam Valente tallied his first-career NCAA goal just 1:03 later, giving the Friars a 4-3 lead.
- Justin Pearson tied the game once again at 18:43. Seconds later, Pearson would be assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct for boarding Max Crozier.
- The Friars cashed in twice on the major penalty. Michael Citara in his season debut beat Sergeev on a one-timer off a feed from Parker Ford.
- Jaroslav Chmelar extended the lead to 6-4 after he re-directed Guillaume Richard's point shot for his fifth tally of the season.
- The Huskies tied the game with a pair of extra-attacker goals from Samu Salminen and Ryan Tverberg in the final minutes, with Tverberg's equalizer with under five seconds to play.
- Providence couldn't convert on two breakaways in overtime and Nick Poisson was denied on a one-timer at the buzzer.
- The shootout went six rounds with PC's Bennett Schimek and UConn's Salminen and Percival scoring, netting the Huskies the extra point.

The Friars boasted 18 past, present and future players that appeared in NHL Development Camps back in July. Moyni On The Man-Up
Senior Patrick Moynihan is second among all active NCAA players with 22 career power-play goals, including a game-winning markers on the power play against Sacred Heart, Clarkson and Northeastern. Moynihan's three game-winning goals are second in the NCAA and match his previous total over a combined 89 career games entering the 2022-23 season.
 
Crozier and Ford Named Captains
The Friars anointed seniors Max Crozier and Parker Ford as the team's co-captains for the 2022-23 season. Both players were alternate captains last season.
 
Berard Breaks Out
After going goal-less for the first seven games of the season, junior Brett Berard broke out against UMass, tallying two goals and an assist on Nov. 4 and recording two points including the game-winning goal on Nov. 5 in overtime. Berard also posted a goal and an assist in last Saturday's 6-6 tie at UConn.
 
Four Sign NLIs
The program recently had future Friars Tanner Adams, Braiden Clark, Aleksi Kivioja and Chris Romaine sign National Letters of Intent to attend Providence College.
 
Young Bucks
Providence ices the sixth youngest roster in the NCAA with an average age of 21.1 years and has a combined 16 first and second year players out of a 29-player roster.
 
In The Show
Eight former Friars appeared on NHL opening night rosters: Noel Acciari (STL), Jacob Bryson (BUF), Vincent Desharnais (EDM), Brandon Duhaime (MIN), Kevin Rooney (CGY), Brandon Tanev (SEA), Tyce Thompson (NJ) and Jake Walman (DET).
 
Friars at the 2022 World Junior Championships
In addition to Nate Leaman and Theresa Feaster being a part of the U.S. National Junior team staff,  junior Brett Berard and sophomore Riley Duran each participated in the tournament for the U.S. Freshman Jaroslav Chmelar appeared in three games for Team Czechia.
 
Three is the Magic Number
The Friars are 197-20-21 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.
 
After 40
The Friars are 179-7-18 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
 
Series History vs. Vermont (PC leads 32-28-11, .528)
The Friars and Catamounts will face-off for a pair at Schneider Arena this weekend before completing the three-game season series in Burlington on Feb. 5. Providence is unbeaten in the last nine meetings (6-0-3) and have won five-straight overall including four wins last season, one coming in the Hockey East Opening Round. Vermont's last win in the series came in a 3-1 victory at Schneider Arena on Feb. 1, 2019.

Scouting the Catamounts...
Vermont enters the weekend at 4-6-1 overall and 2-6-0 in Hockey East play after completing a two-game sweep of UNH at home last weekend. Junior Will Zapernick leads the team in scoring with three goals and two assists while Jacques Bouquot also have five points on five assists. Sophomores Isak Walther, Porter Schachle, Joel Maatta and Andrei Buyalsky have each scored two goals for the Catamounts this season. In goal, junior Gabe Carriere is 4-3-1 with a 2.01 GAA and .930 save percentage in nine appearances. Penn State transfer Oskar Autio is 0-3-0 with a 3.45 GAA and .883 save percentage over three starts for Vermont.
