Volleyball Set To Face Connecticut and Butler To Conclude 2022 Season

The Friars start the week hosting Connecticut on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team is set to host the Connecticut Huskies on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7:00 p.m. before traveling to Indianapolis to face BIG EAST foe Butler University for their BIG EAST season finale.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS… The Friars head into the weekend with an overall record of 12-16 (4-12 BIG EAST). Providence went 1-1 last weekend as it faced No. 17 Marquette and DePaul at home. The Friars suffered a 3-0 loss to No. 17 Marquette on Nov. 12 before defeating DePaul in four sets on Nov. 13. This win marks the first Friar victory over DePaul since 2018.
 
Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) has proved to be an asset on all ends of the floor. Mullally leads the Friars in points with 349, averaging 3.23 points per set. In conference play, the senior has notched 248 assists, a team-best 161 kills, 143 digs, 32 block assists and leads the team with 24 service aces. Mullally's .40 service aces per set ranks fourth in the BIG EAST. Mullally currently ranks second among all NCAA DI players with six triple-doubles.

Kayla Grant (Rowlett, Texas) continues to be a force at the net as the sophomore middle blocker leads the team, hitting .239. Grant has notched 87 kills and leads the team in blocks with 49 (eight solo blocks and 41 block assists) throughout conference play.
 
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.), the Friars' defensive specialist, has also been a key player for Providence. Taylor leads Providence in digs, with 481 (240 in conference play) and her 4.21 digs per set ranks fifth in the BIG EAST. The graduate student has added 70 assists in conference play. Taylor currently ranks third in the Friars' all-time career list for digs, standing at 1,711 digs.
 
Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) leads the team in overall kills, recording 277, and has added 154 in conference play. Nelson has reached double-digit kills in five of the last seven matches.
 
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES… The Huskies enter the weekend ranked No. 4 in the BIG EAST after posting a 15-12 overall record (9-7 BIG EAST). Last weekend in BIG EAST play, Connecticut went 1-1 as they defeated DePaul in straight sets before falling to No. 17 Marquette, 3-0.
 
Senior Caylee Parker ranks third in the BIG EAST in points, averaging 4.33 points per set. The senior has notched 193 kills, 26 blocks and 15 service aces.
 
Senior Madi Whitmire's 10.86 assists per set ranks third in the BIG EAST, she leads the team with 641 in conference play.
 
Senior Karly Berkland has collected a team-best 213 digs in conference play and has 56 assists.
 
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS… Butler enters the weekend with an 8-8 BIG EAST record and is 14-14 overall. Most recently, the Bulldogs recorded a 1-1 weekend after falling to Villanova in five sets and defeating Georgetown in three.  
 
Junior Jaymeson Kinley's 5.70 digs per set leads the BIG EAST. The junior has collected 342 total digs in conference play and has recorded double-digit digs in each of Butler's last eight matches.
 
Junior Marisa Guisti ranks third in the conference, averaging 1.12 blocks per set.
 
Sophomore Amina Shackelford leads the Bulldogs in kills with 214 in conference play. The sophomore has also added 54 blocks since the start of BIG EAST play.
