Women’s Soccer Prepares For Xavier And UConn

The Friars will face Xavier University on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in Cincinnati, Ohio.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  – The Providence College women's soccer team will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to face Xavier University on Thursday, October 17. The Friars will then return to New England to face BIG EAST foe UConn on Sunday, Oct. 23 in Storrs, Conn.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS… The Friars enter Thursday's game with a 4-9-2 overall record and 2-4-1 record in conference play. Providence went 0-1-1 in last week's games tying Marquette 2-2 on Oct. 13 and falling 1-0 to No. 17 Georgetown on Oct. 16.  Freshman Ella McBride (Peterborough, Canada) scored her first career goal against Marquette.
 
Junior Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.), junior Kyla Gallagher (Farmington, Conn.) and sophomore Gillian Kenney (Hanover, Mass.) each lead the Friars' offense this season with six points. Hughes and Kenney each have two goals and two assists while Gallagher has one goal and a team-high four assists on the season. Goalkeeper Emma Bodmer (Monroe Township, N.J.) has started in all 15 games for the Friars. She has posted a 1.74 goals against average and 0.609 save percentage.

FRIARS IN THE BIG EAST… Providence is more than halfway through BIG EAST play and still in the mix for one of six spots in the postseason BIG EAST Conference Tournament. Entering Thursday's game, Providence is eighth overall with seven points and just three points out of sixth place. No. 17 Georgetown and Xavier lead the BIG EAST with 22 and 17 points, respectively. Providence is looking to return to the BIG EAST Tournament for the eighth time in nine years.
 
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST XAVIER… The Friars hold a 4-5-0 record against the Musketeers. Providence is looking for its first win over Xavier in four games. In 2021, the Friars fell to Xavier, 1-0, in overtime in Providence, R.I.
 
SCOUTING THE MUSKETEERS… Xavier enters Thursday's game with a 11-2-3 overall record and 5-0-2 record in conference play. The Musketeers' only two losses of the season came back-to-back against Northwestern on Sept. 4 and Saint Louis on Sept. 8. Most recently in BIG EAST action, the Musketeers tied the St. John's Red Storm, 0-0, on Sunday, Oct. 16.
 
Midfielder Molly McLaughlin leads the Musketeers offense with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Forward Emma Flick, forward Reagan Dancer and forward Chloe Netzel follow suit each contributing three goals this season. Goalkeeper Maria Galley has registered a 0.63 goals against average and 0.811 save percentage. She has tallied five straight shutouts over against BIG EAST opponents.
 
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST UCONN… The Huskies hold a 29-4-2 record over the Friars. Providence earned its first win over Connecticut in 18 years on Oct. 22, 2011. Since 2011, Providence has held a 2-2-1 against Connecticut. Last season, the Friars and Huskies tied, 1-1, in double overtime in Providence, R.I.
 
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES… UConn enters the weekend with a 7-6-1 overall record and 3-4 record in conference play. The Huskies will face Villanova on Thursday, Oct. 20 in Villanova, Pa. before welcoming the Friars to Storrs, Conn. on Sunday, Oct. 23.
 
Midfielder Abbey Jones and forward Jada Konte lead the Huskies offense this season with 11 points each. Jones has tallied three goals and five assists while Konte has registered four goals and three assists. Kaitlyn Mahoney has been the goalkeeper of record this season for UConn. She has posted a 1.05 goals against average and 0.783 save percentage.
 
UP NEXT… The Friars will conclude the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 27 against Villanova University on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I.
