PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the Nuttycombe Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison on Friday, Oct. 14. The race will be held at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The women's race will start at 1:20 p.m. (EST), followed by the men's race at 2:00 p.m. (EST.)
The Friar women enter the race ranked 16
th nationally and second in the Northeast Region. The men's team comes in ranked fourth in the Northeast Region. Both the men's and women's team will be competing in a field of 24 out of the top-30 nationally ranked programs.
Junior
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) and graduate student
David Principe, Jr. (Johnston, R.I.) will lead the Friars at the line. The Friar men finished second at the Friar Invitational and placed sixth at the Lehigh Paul Short Invite. Back has led the Friar men in both races this fall finishing third overall (24:40.84) at the Friar Invitational and 12
th (23:17.3) at the Paul Short Invite. Principe finished second for the Friars and 14
th overall at the Paul Short Invite with a time of 23:18.0.
Leading the pack for the women will be senior
Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) and freshman
Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland). Tuck finished the Friar Invitational in first place with a time of 17:16.42. For her performance, she earned BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week. At the Paul Short Invite, she finished second for the Friars and 37
th overall (20:14.8). Buckley finished ahead of Tuck in 7
th place in 19:40.8 for her first collegiate race.
Following the Nuttycombe Invitational, the Friars will host the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship on Oct. 29 in Attleboro, Mass.
