PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's swimming and diving team set multiple school records in a dual meet loss to BIG EAST foe Villanova on Jan. 15 at Taylor Natatorium in Providence, R.I. The Wildcats claimed the victory by a margin of 110-95.
Alex Beauchene finished second in the 200-meter freestyle and set a school record with a time of 1:55.59. The previous record stood for 23 years and was set by Jed Michnowicz in 1999.
Parker Keller bested his previous school record, set in 2021, in the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:25.49. He finished third in the event on Saturday against the Wildcats.
Justin Viotto claimed first place and shaved just over four seconds of John Fatigati's school record (4:38.31) in the 400-meter IM with a time of 4:34.91.
Other notable performances included Will Layden's individual victories in the 50-meter freestyle (23.56) and 100-meter freestyle (52.75).
Viotto got his second first-place finish of the day in the 200-meter butterfly, touching the wall in 2:06.97.
The 200-meter medley relay team comprised of
McGovern Brown,
Kevin Hood,
Ryan Sharp and
Brian Cantin took first place with a time of 1:45.34 to open the competition and secure the first points of the meet (11).
The Friars will return to action for their final regular-season home meet of the year on Jan. 22 against Holy Cross. Diving events will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by swim events at 1:00 p.m.
