PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College field hockey was well-represented on the list of BIG EAST Weekly Award winners released by the conference office on Sept. 14. Junior midfielder
Lisa McNamara (Barre, Vt.) was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while redshirt freshman
Roos Michiels (Noord-Brabrant, The Netherlands) earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
McNamara earned weekly honors for the first time in her career after helping guide the Friars to back-to-back victories against New Hampshire (2-1) and LIU (5-2). McNamara had a hand in four of the Friars' seven tallies last week, with five points on one goal and three assists. She assisted on what proved to be the game-winning goal against UNH and followed with a goal and two assists in the Friars' come-from-behind win against Long Island University. The Friars trailed 2-0 at halftime before recording five unanswered goals in the second half. McNamara was credited with the game-winner (the Friars' third goal of the day) on a penalty-stroke.
Michiels earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolades for the second time this season as the Friars posted a 2-0 record. As a member of the defensive unit, Michiels picked up a defensive save in each of PC's matches last week, marking the first defensive saves of her career with the squad.
Providence owns a 4-2 overall record this season and is scheduled to open BIG EAST Conference play at Villanova on Friday, Sept. 17 at The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pa. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
