PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team concluded its 2021 spring campaign with a 2-1 loss to No. 17 Old Dominion. The game was tied 1-1 late in the fourth quarter before the Monarchs converted the game-winning goal with just 1:09 to play.
FIRST QUARTER:
• It was a defensive battle in the opening 15 minutes of play.
• Old Dominion logged the only three shots of the first quarter, including two that came in the final seven second of the frame.

Asia Porter recorded two saves for the Friars.
SECOND QUARTER:
•
Marlies Kool had the Friars' first look at a scoring opportunity at 21:01, but her a shot went wide of the cage.
• She struck again at 22:42, but this time her effort was saved by ODU's Cam MacGillivray.
• The Monarchs recorded the first penalty corner of the game at 25:37, but Porter was able to turn away a shot attempt by Marlon de Bruijne.
• The two teams went into halftime knotted in a scoreless tie (0-0).
• ODU held the advantage in shots (5-2), shots on goal (3-1) and penalty corners (2-0).
THIRD QUARTER:
• Providence got on the board for a 1-0 lead as
Sophia Pompeo scored on a breakaway after back-to-back shot attempts by ODU.
• The Friars earned their second penalty corner of the quarter (and the game) at 41:36, but
Amanda Collins' had her shot attempt saved.
• The Friars registered another corner at 41:57 but were unable to get a shot off and the score remained 1-0 in favor of Providence.
• At 42:32, Porter made a save on de Bruijne's initial shot on a penalty corner, but Jessica Gabriel was able to put home the rebound and tie the game, 1-1.
FOURTH QUARTER:
• Providence opened the final quarter with a shot attempt by Pompeo just 37-seconds into the action and resulted in a penalty corner.

Niamh Gowing's shot attempt during the set piece was turned about by the ODU goalkeeper.
• The game remained tied, 1-1, until de Bruijne scored what proved to be the game winner with 1:09 left in regulation on a penalty corner.
NOTES:
• Porter finished the game with seven saves for the Friars.
• MacGillivray recorded five saves for the Monarchs.
• ODU held a slim edge in shots on goal (9-6) and penalty corners (7-5).
