Gevork Diarbian Scores Golden Goal To Defeat Villanova In Double Overtime, 1-0

Rimi Olatunji recorded his third career shutout.

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Providence College men's soccer team defeated the Villanova Wildcats, 1-0, in double-overtime at Higgins Soccer Complex in Villanova, Pa. The Friars improved to 3-0 overall on the season (2-0 in BIG EAST). It marks the Friars first 3-0 start to a season since 2014.

Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.) scored the game-winning goal in the 106th minute of play. It marked the rookie's third goal in as many games for the Friars. The Friars have won 10 of the last 11 meetings between the two teams.

GAME FLOW & NOTES 
-Villanova opened the half with two shots in the first seven minutes, with one being on goal.
-Rimi Olatunji (Brampton, Ontario) made his first save after 29 seconds of play.  
-Gil Santos (Parede, Portugal) attempted back-to-back shots for the Friars to get their offense going, but both shots were off target.  
-Olatunji kept the scored locked at 0-0 in the 34th minute. The Wildcats' Luke Pompliano had a great look from inside the box, where Olatunji made the save at the bottom center of the net.  
-At the half, Villanova owned a 7-3 edge in shots, with three of those being on goal.  
-Diarbian gave the Friars a chance to score in the 70th minute. The midfielder dribbled his way into the box and shot a dagger to the bottom right of the goal, forcing the Villanova keeper to make a diving save.  
-Olatunji continued to make huge plays on the ball to keep the game scoreless throughout the second half. At the end of regulation, he had five saves compared to one save for the Wildcats. Both teams took four shots in the half.  
-At the end of regulation, the game was scoreless and the Friars entered overtime for the first time this season.
-The first 10-minute overtime was scoreless.  
-In the 106th minute of double-overtime, Gage Raftery (Seattle, Wash.) lofted the ball ahead to Diarbian along the far side of the pitch. The midfielder danced around defenders into the box where he sent the ball right over Carson Williams for the golden goal.  
-Olatunji recorded his third-consecutive shutout, finishing the day with six saves.
