-At the 15:05 mark in the opening period, the Friars increased their lead 2-0 with a goal from
Patrick Moynihan on the rebound.
Greg Printz and
Parker Ford earned the assists on Moynihan's fifth tally of the season.
-Both teams skated through the second period scoreless and Providence carried their 2-0 into the second intermission. Shots were even at 17-17 through the first 40 minutes.
-The scoring continued in the third at 6:14 as Thompson set up
Parker Ford for a one-timer from the right circle that beat Vomacka over the glove. Poisson picked up his second assist of the day on the play.
-Providence skated man-up in the third period for five minutes after UConn's Adam Karashik earned a five-minute major for kneeing and game misconduct. The Friars couldn't convert on the major.
-The Huskies pulled Vomacka for a 6-on-4 advantage during a power play in the final minutes, but it was the Friars who cashed in as a saucer pass from UConn hopped over a defenseman's stick and into their own net.
Tyce Thompson was credited with the goal, his second of the night and eighth of the season.

Jaxson Stauber finished the night with 20 saves in his fourth shutout of the season.
-Ford and Thompson led the team in shots with six each.

Leaman Records 200th Win at Providence
- Head Coach
Nate Leaman recording his 200th victory while at Providence last Saturday at Merrimack. Only Leaman and Lou Lamoriello (248) have reached the 200-win mark in program history. In 10 seasons at Providence, Leaman has posted a 201-119-47 record (.612).

Three Current and Future Friars Drafted
Forwards
Brett Berard and
Chase Yoder were both selected on day two of the 2020 NHL Draft in October. Berard was selected by the New York Rangers in the fifth round (134th overall), while Yoder was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the sixth round (170th overall). Future Friar Riley Duran was taken by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round (182nd overall).

Meet the New Guys
Providence welcomed in a seven-member incoming class for this season - four freshmen and three transfer student-athletes. The freshmen are:
Brett Berard,
Nick Poisson,
Uula Ruikka and
Chase Yoder. Sophomore
Jaxson Stauber is a transfer from Minnesota State, while
Matt Tugnutt and
Anton Martinsson are graduate transfers from Sacred Heart and Alaska Fairbanks, respectively.

Stauber Backstops The Friars
Since becoming eligible on Dec. 13,
Jaxson Stauber has posted a 1.69 GAA and a .933 save percentage in 17 games, stopping 403-of-432 shots.

Returning Production
Providence ranked sixth in the nation with 84 goals that returned this season. The 82% of returning goals ranked fourth nationally. The Friars also returned 76% of their points from last season, which also ranked sixth.

The Friars have the 10th youngest roster in the NCAA this season (average age of 21 years, 181 days). Freshman
Brett Berard is the fifth youngest player on an NCAA roster this year.

Providence holds the nation's second longest-active NCAA appearance streak, having made a sixth- straight tournament appearance in 2018-19. Denver leads the pack with 12-straight appearances.

Scouting the Minutemen
The Minutemen return to action after a 24-day hiatus and coming off a two-game sweep over UMass Lowell on Jan. 29-30. UMass boasts seven players with double digits in points, including team leaders - Bobby Trivigno (7-14-21), Matthew Kessel (9-7-16) and Zach Jones (5-11-16). Senior Carson Gicewicz leads the team with 10 goals. Junior goaltender Filip Forsberg has started the previous four games and surrendered just two goals, earning himself Hockey East Goaltender of the Month accolades. Forsberg stopped 52-of-53 shots he faced against the Friars over two games in January.

Series History vs. UMass (PC leads 48-29-8, .612)
The teams skated to a pair of ties back on Jan. 22-23, with the road teams claiming the extra point in the standings via shootout wins. The Friars and Minutemen combined for just two regulation goals in 130 minutes of action, both in a 1-1 tie at Schneider Arena on Jan. 23.
