Four different players scored for the Friars.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's soccer team opened the 2021 spring season with a bang, defeating Rhode Island, 4-0, on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. Rimi Olatunji (Brampton, Ontario) recorded his first career shutout in goal. It marked the Friars' first win over the Rhode Island Rams since September 2, 2017, when the Friars defeated URI 2-1 in in double overtime in Kingston, R.I.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Rhode Island had the first opportunity to score in the 12th minute of play. Rimi Olatunji (Brampton, Ontario) made a diving save at the lower left of net to keep the score locked at zero.
- After a slow first half, Rhode Island had taken three shots compared to the Friars two.
-Gage Raftery (Seattle, Wash.) opened up the scoring in the 54th minute of play. Christoper Roman (Glastonbury, Conn.) crossed the ball from the near side to Raftery who was able finish with his right foot 12 yards out.
-Five minutes later, Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.) recorded his first career goal as a Friar. Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.) played the ball forward to Diarbian in the box where he scored in the upper right side of the net.
-The Friars kept it going with a goal from Roman in the 62nd minute. Diarbian crossed the ball to Roman for the finish with his right foot.
-Aidan Melville (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) gave the Friars their fourth goal of the afternoon to give them a comfortable lead. The freshman scored off a free kick 24 yards out. It marked his first career goal.
-Rhode Island held the advantage in corner kicks, 4-1.

1-0 – (PC) 53:00/2nd – Gage Raftery (Roman) – Roman crossed the ball to Raftery who scored in the bottom left of the net.
2-0 (PC) 58:41/2nd – Gevork Diarbian (Kevin Vang) – Vang played the ball into box where Diarbian lofted the ball over the keeper with right foot.
3-0 (PC) – 61:58/2nd – Christopher Roman (Diarbian) – Diarbian recorded his first assist off a cross to Roman where he finished from just inside the goal area.
4-0 (PC) – 74:24/2nd – Aidan Melville – Scored off a free kick
