Friars Defeat Brown In Cross-City Match-Up, 59-43

Janai Crooms finished the night with 14 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team defeated cross-city rival Brown, 59-43, on Dec. 8 at the Pizzitola Sports Center in Providence, R.I.
1ST QUARTER:
• Brown held a 12-7 lead at the first media timeout (4:43), as the Bears opened the game 5-10 from the field.
• Alyssa Geary scored five of the Friars' seven points to start the game (2-2 FG).
• Providence scored back-to-back buckets to get within one (12-11), but Brown answered five-straight points to take a 17-11 edge.
• The Friars closed the final 2:29 of the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 21-17 into the break.
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence held a slim 7-6 scoring margin through the first 5:03 of the second to provide a 28-23 lead at the media.
• The Friars used an 8-0 run to close the half, taking a 36-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.
• Janai Crooms led the way for Providence in the first half with 10 points, five rebounds and six assists.
• Olivia Olsen gave the Friars a spark with nine points and five boards in 12 minutes.
3RD QUARTER:
• Brown scored back-to-back buckets to close the gap to 11 at the 6:20 mark (38-27).
• The Friars went on another run (9-0) to take a 47-27 lead.
• Providence carried a 22-point lead into the fourth quarter (51-29).
4TH QUARTER:
• Providence struggled from the field in the fourth quarter, shooting just 21.4-percent (3-14).
• Brown held a 14-8 scoring advantage in the final 10 minutes to make the final 59-43.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• During a span of 12:29 in the first and second quarters, the Friars outscored Brown 25-6 to break the game open.
• Crooms finished the night with her fourth double-double of the year on 14 points and 10 boards. She was two assists shy of a triple double (eight). And added two blocked shots.
• Geary also registered 14 points for Providence, marking her ninth-straight game in double figures. She also contributed eight rebounds and two assists.
• Olsen scored a career-high 13 points on 5-8 shooting and matched her career high on the boards (nine).
• Providence shot 43.6-percent from the field for the game (24-55), while Brown converted just 27.4-percent of its shots from the floor (17-62).
• The Friars out-rebounded the Bears, 51-30. Providence's 51 boards marked a season high.
• Brown scored 20 of its 43 points off of Providence's 20 turnovers.
• Mauricio paced the Bears with 12 points, while Mya Murray collected a team-high eight boards.
