Puck Drop
The Friars will host the Vermont Catamounts on Friday, Dec. 31 at 2:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena as the Friars return after the holiday break. Providence will then travel to Holy Cross on Sunday, Jan. 2 at 4:30 p.m. and Boston College on Monday, Jan. 3 at 7:00 p.m. for a pair of Hockey East road games.
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are currently 7-5-5 overall and 4-4-2 in Hockey East play. In their last time out, Providence earned a 1-0 shutout victory over Princeton (Dec. 3) before tying the following night, 1-1 (Dec. 4).
Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) scored the lone goal for the Friars in game one against Princeton, and the game-winner, on the power play. Hjlamarsson was assisted by

Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) tallied 34 saves on what served as second shutout of the season and eighth shutout of her career. The following night,
Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) scored for the Friars in the final period for a 1-1 tie, assisted by Lunny and
Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine).
Mireille Kingsley (Sudbury, Ontario) was in net for the Friars in the second game against Princeton, and recorded 30 saves for a .968 save percentage on the night.
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) leads the Friars in points (13) and goals (6). Lunny is the team leader in assists (eight) and has 12 total points.
Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Peterson have eight points apiece. 17 different Friars have points on the season and 12 players have recorded at least one goal.
Abstreiter and Kingsley have both seen time in net for the Friars, with Abstreiter getting her first action against Holy Cross (Nov. 1). Abstreiter has 10 starts, with a 1.67 goals against average and .944 save percentage and 287 saves. Kingsley has seven starts, a 1.40 goals against average and a .950 save percentage with 190 saves.
Kingsley Earns Defensive Player of the Week Honors
Kingsley was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Dec. 6. It marked her second league honor this season. The senior netminder recorded her first career shutout against Merrimack, 3-0, (Nov. 30) with 18 saves before recording 30 saves as the Friars battled Princeton to a 1-1 tie in the non-conference series finale (Dec. 4).
Scouting Vermont
Maine is 9-7-2 overall and 6-4-1 in Hockey East. The Catamounts are coming off of a win against Boston College, with a 3-1 victory at home (Dec. 10). This will be the first time the teams are meeting this season.
As a team, Vermont averages 2.6 goals per game while giving up 2.4. The Catamounts convert on 20.0% of power play chances and kill off 90.2% of penalties.
Who to Watch
Senior Maude Poulin-Labelle has six goals and 11 assists for a team-high 17 points. Poulin-Labelle is followed by Theresa Schafzahl and Natálie Mlýnková, who have 14 and 13 points, respectively, each with a team-high seven goals.
Blanka Škodová and Jessie McPherson both have starts in net for the Catamounts. Škodová holds a 1.99 goals against average and a .900 save percentage with 10 starts. McPherson has a 2.57 goals against average and a .870 save percentage having started eight games.
Scouting Holy Cross
Holy Cross enters the matchup at 3-14 overall and 1-11 in Hockey East play. In their last time out, the Crusaders defeated Brown University, 4-2, at home (Dec. 10). This will be the first time the teams are meeting this season.
Holy Cross averages 1.5 goals per game and gives up 3.7. The Crusaders convert on 3.4% of chances on the power play so far this season. The team has killed off 79% of opponent's power plays.
Who to Watch
Junior Mary Edmonds lead Vermont offensively with seven points on three goals and four assists. Darci Johal, Carlier Magier, Millie Sirum and Lilly Feeney are the Crusaders other top scorers, with six points apiece. Johal is the team's leading goal scorer (six).
Senior Jada Brenon has played in 12 games. She holds a 3.65 goals against average and a .897 save percentage. She's posted one shutout and has a 2-10 overall record.
Scouting Boston College
The Eagles enter the game with a 10-8 overall record and a 8-5 mark in conference. In their last Hockey East matchup, the Eagles were defeated by Vermont 1-3 in Burlington (Dec. 10). In the home-and-home series played between the two teams earlier the season, the series ended 1-1, with each team grabbing a win on their home ice.
Boston College averages 2.3 goals per game and gives up 2.4. The Eagles have converted on 10.2% of power play opportunities this season and have killed off 84.1% of opponent's power plays.
Who to Watch
Boston College's offense is led by Hannah Bilka, who was tallied 15 points this season, leading the team in both goals (seven) and assists (eight). Bilka is followed by Kelly Browne and Abby Newhook who have 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Abigail Levy has taken on sole goaltending duties for the Eagles this season. Over 18 games, Levy has recorded 664 saves for a .939 save percentage and 2.39 goals against average.
