Women's Hoops Falls To Rhode Island, 66-53

Mary Baskerville recorded her 18th career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Rhode Island, 66-53, on Nov 17 at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. The Rams improved to 4-0 on the year, while the Friars dropped to 1-2 on the season.
1ST QUARTER:
• The Friars got out to a 6-0 run to start the game and extended their lead to 8-2.
• Marta Vargas drained a three from the left wing to cut URI's deficit to five (8-5).
• URI tied the game, 12-12, forcing a Providence timeout with 3:30 on the clock.
• The Rams took their first lead with 1:22 left, but freshman Olivia Olsen answered on the other end with a lay up 11-seconds later.
• Dolly Cairns closed the first-quarter scoring with a triple for URI to give the Rams a 17-14 lead into the break.
• URI got 15 of their 17 points off of turnovers.
• Mary Baskerville paced the Friars with eight points on 4-4 shooting in the opening 10 minutes of action.
2ND QUARTER:
• A 5-0 run gave the Rams a 22-16 advantage early in the second.
• Baskerville scored the next three points to crack double figures in the scoring column (11 points) and get the Friars within 22-19.
• URI answered with a 7-0 run to mount a 10-point advantage with 4:14 (29-19).
• Providence held a 6-4 scoring margin to close the half, making it a 33-25 game.
• Baskerville finished the half with a team-high 11 points.
3RD QUARTER:
• The third quarter was a grind for both teams, offensively.
• Providence got within five (42-37) with 2:02 left on the clock.
• The Friars held a 12-11 advantage in scoring during the frame.
• URI held a 44-37 lead at the intermission.
4TH QUARTER:
• Providence was able to get as close as six (46-40) two minutes into the action.
• The Rams held off the Friars in the quarter with a 22-16 scoring advantage overall.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Baskerville recorded her first double-double of the season and 18th of her career before fouling out with 3:44 to play. She completed the night with 15 points, 11 rebounds, two blocked shots, two assists and two steals.
• Janai Crooms chipped in 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals.
• Alyssa Geary got into double figures in the scoring column for the second-straight game with 13 points on 5-8 shooting. She also added a game-high five assists and two blocked shots.
• Both teams finished at 43.1-percent from the field. URI was 25-58, while Providence converted 22-51 attempts.
• The Rams benefited from 9-19 shooting from beyond the arc to extend the gap on the scoreboard, as the Friars finished the game on 2-14 shooting from deep.
• Former Seton Hall stand-out Dez Elmore posted 15 points, 17 rebounds and seven steals for the Rams.
• Dolly Cairns led all scorers with 21 points, including a 5-8 performance from three.
