PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team wrapped up its season with a 6-1 victory over Dartmouth on Oct. 31 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I.
1st QUARTER:
• Dartmouth took an early 1-0 lead as Bronwyn Bird notched her fourth goal of the season. She collected a turnover and carried the ball into the circle for a back-handed effort.
• The Friars responded less than five minutes later (10:25) as
Olivia Ward received a pass from
Sophia Pompeo and rifled a hard, low shot from the center of the circle.
2nd QUARTER:
• The Friars tacked on two goals in less than a minute to claim a 3-1 lead heading into halftime.
• Pompeo started the action with a deflection at the right post on a penalty corner at 23:09. She was assisted by
Niamh Gowing.
• At 24:07, freshman Isabella DelNegro notched her first career goal. She controlled a loose ball on the doorstep of the goal and slipped it over the goal line, unassisted.
• At the half, Providence held a 6-1 edge in shots and 3-0 advantage in penalty corners.
3rd QUARTER:
• The Friars scored their fourth goal of the afternoon, as
Nora Goddard-Despot cashed in at the left post on the team's fifth penalty corner of the quarter.
• The goal came with just 22 seconds left in the frame, and was unassisted.
4th QUARTER:
• Providence finished off the game with goals by
Amanda Collins and Ward at 52:59 and 58:23, respectively.
• Collins converted off a low shot during a penalty corner, assisted by Goddard-Despot.
• Gowing dumped a pass into the right side of the circle and Ward capped off her career in style with a hard, low shot to the far post.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Senior goalkeeper
Camryn Kelbaugh picked up the victory in the cage with four saves.
• All four of her saves came in the second half.
• Dartmouth goalkeeper Hatley Post registered six saves for the Big Green.
• Ward tallied two goals for the second-straight match, having also picked up two markers against Quinnipiac on Friday.
• Providence scored 11 goals in two games this weekend, including a season high six in today's match vs. Dartmouth.
• The Friars finished the game with a 16-7 edge in shots and 11-3 advantage in corners.
• Prior to the match, the Friars honored
Marlies Kool, Kelbaugh, Gowing, Collins and Ward.
