Scouting the Hoyas… The top ranked Georgetown Hoyas have held the number one ranking nationally for five weeks posting an overall record of 10-0-0. The Hoyas are coming off a 1-0 victory over Butler University. The Hoyas have posted 22 goals over the course of the season and have allowed only five. The Hoyas are led in points by junior midfielder Dante Polvara (Pleansantville, N.Y.) who has scored four goals and three assists in 10 starts with the Hoyas. The Hoyas are averaging just over two goals per game and average 17.4 shots per match. Georgetown leads the BIG EAST in goals against average with an average of 0.5. The Hoyas have never trailed in a game this season.
Scouting the Friars… The Friars have yet to lose a game since Sept. 3 where they lost 2-1 to New Hampshire. Senior midfielder and BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal) scored both of the Friars goals in a hard fought week of BIG EAST matches where the Friars defeated the St. John's Red Storm who was previously unbeaten in BIG EAST play 1-0 on Wednesday Oct. 6 in overtime. On Saturday Oct. 9, the Friars battled DePaul University to a 1-1 draw, where Lima had the Friars' only goal. Sophomore
Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.) leads the Friars in points this season (13) with six goals and one assist. McSorley leads the BIG EAST in goals scored and is in second for points per game averaging 1.30.
Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass.) also contributes to the Friars' prolific offense with four goals and four assists on the season and was recognized twice for BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week (Aug. 30, Sept. 20). Smith is tied for third in the BIG EAST for points per game and sixth in goals scored. The Friars have outscored their opponents 27-13 this season, average 14.82 shots and 2.45 goals per game, a BIG EAST best. On the defensive end, the Friars have held opponents to 1.10 goals per match, with help from senior defender and BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 29),
Ramzi Qawasmy (Landsdale, Pa.), who has played all but six minutes this season.
Friars against ranked opponents… The Friars have played three of their 11 games in the 2021 season against ranked opponents and hold a 2-1-0 record. On Aug. 26
th, they hosted No. 23 Fordham and posted a 3-0 victory. On Sept. 3
rd the Friars travelled to No. 14 New Hampshire, where they lost 2-1. On Sept. 18, the Friars opened conference play with a win at No. 19 Seton Hall, 3-2.
Friars undefeated in BIG EAST… The Friars opened up BIG EAST play against No. 19 Seton Hall on Sept. 18 where the Friars came back from two one-goal deficits to win 3-2 with two goals in the last 10 minutes from
Brendan McSorley and
Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal). In the Friars' BIG EAST home opener against Xavier on Sept. 25, the Friars came back from 1-0 to win 3-2 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. On Oct. 6, the Friars traveled to Jamaica, N.Y. to face St. John's where the Friars posted a 1-0 win in overtime. On Oct. 9
th the Friars hosted DePaul University that concluded in a 1-1 draw.
