Women’s Basketball Falls To DePaul, 97-59 In The BIG EAST Quarterfinals

It marked the Friars’ second-straight quarterfinal appearance.

CHICAGO, ILL. – The Providence College women's basketball team fell to DePaul, 97-59, in the BIG EAST Quarterfinal on Saturday, March 7 at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Ill. The Friars conclude their season with a 13-19 record.
 
FIRST QUARTER:
• The Blue Demons jumped out to a 13-5 lead halfway through the quarter. Alyssa Geary (Elmhurst, Ill.) scored the first two buckets for the Friars. Earlette Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with a free throw.
• DePaul led 24-14 after one quarter.
• Geary and Kyra Spiwak (Arlington Heights, Ill.) had four points each to lead Providence
• Providence shot 46.2-percent (6-13) from the field, 25-percent (1-4) from three and 50-percent (1-2) from the line.
 
SECOND QUARTER:
Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) cut DePaul's lead back to single digits with a lay-up with 9:03 remaining.
• After the Blue Demons led 30-20, DePaul went on a 13-2 run late in the quarter.
• The Blue Demons entered the half with a 47-24 lead.
• Williams had six points in the quarter and led the Friars with eight at half.
• Providence shot 44-percent (11-25) from the field, 16.7-percent (1-6) from deep and 50-percent (1-2) from the line.
 
THIRD QUARTER:
• The Blue Demons outscored the Friars, 27-24 in the quarter and led 74-45 after three quarters.
 
FOURTH QUARTER:
•DePaul outscored Providence, 25-11 in the quarter.
 
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Providence had three players in double figures. Spiwak led the Friars with 13 points on 6-12 shooting from the field. Williams registered 12 points and tied her career-high in assists (seven). Webb chipped in with ten points.
• Geary recorded seven points, a team-best five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one assist.
• Providence shot 43.6-percent (24-55) from the field, 31.3-percent (5-16) from deep and 54.5-percent from the free throw line.
