Providence's Alpha Diallo Named BIG EAST Player Of The Week

Diallo had career highs for rebounds and points last week.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced today (Feb. 17) that Providence College senior Alpha Diallo (New York, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Diallo had a career week for the Friars leading them to a 1-1 mark, posting two double-doubles. It marks the first time Diallo has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week. He is the first Friar to be named BIG EAST Player of the Week since Rodney Bullock earned it on December 5, 2016.

Diallo averaged 27 points, 13.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in two games last week. He shot 63.3 percent (19-30) from the field and 1.000 percent (5-5) from three-point territory. Diallo had a career-high 35 points as he was 11-15 from the field, including 5-5 from three-point territory in a 74-71 win over No. 10 Seton Hall on February 15. The senior forward recorded his ninth double-double of the season as he added 10 rebounds in the win. He also was 8-9 from the free-throw line. In addition, he became the 17th Friar all-time to score more than 1,500 points (1,519 points). On February 13, Diallo scored 19 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds in a loss at St. John's. 

Diallo leads the Friars in scoring (14.0) and rebounding (8.2). 

The Friars (14-12, 7-6) will return to action on Wednesday, February 19 at Georgetown at 8:30 p.m. on FS1.
