Men’s And Women’s Indoor Track Compete At David Hemery Valentine Invitational

Abbey Wheeler now ranks 14th in the NCAA in the 3,000-meter after her 9:08.17 finish.
BOSTON, Mass.- The Providence College men's and women's indoor track teams competed against a highly competitive field at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass, hosted by Boston University. The Friars posted five IC4A and two ECAC qualifying times. The IC4A/ECAC Championships will be on Saturday, Mar. 7–Sunday, Mar. 8 in Boston, Mass.
For the Friar women, Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) crossed the line fourth in her section in the 3,000-meter race (9:08.17). Wheeler's time in the 3,000-meter currently ranks 14th overall in the NCAA. Tessa Hunt (Wellington, New Zealand) finished first in her section in the 1,000-meter run. Hunt's time qualifies her for the ECAC Championships.
On the men's side, Ryan Gallagher (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) finished first in his section in the 3,000-meter run (8:07.50) and qualified for the IC4A Championships. Gallagher's time was a personal-best. Michael O'Leary (St. James, N.Y.) set a personal-best in the mile in his fifth-place finish in his section with a time of 4:06.20. O'Leary's time qualifies him for the IC4A Championship.
Other Notable Performances:
Nick Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) finished fourth in his section of the mile with a time of 4:06.42. His time qualified him for the IC4A Championships.
Sean Meehan (East Greenwich, R.I.) set a personal-best in the 3,000-meter race (8:26.39) and qualified for the IC4A Championships.
Angus White (New Plymouth, New Zealand) crossed the line first in his section in the mile run (4:10.90). White has now qualified for the IC4A Championships.
Bridget Mitchell (Milton, Mass.) placed fourth in her section in the mile run (4:53.42) and qualified for the ECAC Championships.
The Friars compete next at the Brown University Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Providence, R.I.
