No. 14 Men's Hockey Edges Vermont, 3-2

BURLINGTON, Vt.Michael Lackey made a season-high 39 saves, including 23 in the third period, while Michael Callahan, Jack Dugan and Tyce Thompson each registered two points as the No. 14 Providence College men's hockey team held on for a 3-2 win at Vermont on Saturday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

NOTES
- The Friars raced out to a 2-0 lead on the strength of two power-play goals 1:21 apart in the first period.
- The lead was cut in half just 1:27 later as Max Kaufman buried a shorthanded goal on an odd-man rush.
- Max Crozier gave the Friars insurance at 16:29 of the second period on what proved to be the game-winning goal. It was Crozier's third game-winning strike of the season.
- The Catamounts made a push in the third period, outshooting the Friars by a 24-10 margin.
- Andrew Lucas brought Vermont back within one with 7:12 remaining in the third on the power play.
- Lackey stood tall again in the final minutes, stopping 23-of-24 shots he faced in the third period.
- Dugan added to his NCAA-leading point total (49) with a pair of assists. He became the first Friar to record 40 assists in a season since Mike Boback in 1991-92.
- Dugan and Thompson became the first Friar duo to register 40-plus points in a season since 2002-03 (Jon DiSalvatore, Peter Fregoe, Devin Rask).
- It was Dugan's 16th multi-point performance this season, while Thompson and Callahan recorded their 14th and 8th multi-point performances, respectively.
- Nine of Providence's 15 game-winning goals have been scored by freshmen.
- Providence snapped a four-game winless streak with the win on Saturday night.
