CHARGING FORWARD DURING THE PANDEMIC... When the Friars take the court on Thursday to face Maine, it will mark their seventh game of the season. Providence will tie Arkansas for the most games played in women's NCAA Division I basketball - during a season of constant schedule changes due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, the Friars have played more games this season than any other member of the BIG EAST Conference. Villanova ranks second in games played in the league (five), having faced La Salle on Dec. 9.

HOW THEY'VE GOTTEN IT DONE... Providence played its first six games in an 11-day stretch, spanning five different states: Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Wisconsin and Indiana. It's next three games (including Maine) will take place over the course of nine days (Dec. 10-19), while waiting for the BIG EAST Conference to announce the remainder of the league schedule (16 games).

BLACK BEARS PLAYING SEASON OPENER... Maine will be playing its first game of the 2020-21 season on Thursday, when it travels to Providence. Maine paused all winter sports competition on Nov. 24, and announced its intention to resume activity on Tuesday evening. MAINE PICKED TO WIN AMERICA EAST TITLE... For the third-straight season, the Maine Black Bears have been picked to win the America East Conference title. Maine featured three of its players on the five-player Preseason All-Conference Team in Maeve Carroll, Blanca Millan and Dor Saar. Millan was named America East Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year last season. Overall, Maine returns 80-percent of its scoring from a year ago and welcomes five freshmen to the roster.

PROVIDENCE VS. MAINE ALL-TIME... Providence and Maine have played six times during the history of the two women's basketball programs, with the last meeting occurring during the 1988-89 season. The Friars lead the all-time series, 6-0.

The Friars' miscues fueled a 32-6 scoring advantage for Marquette in points off of turnovers.  Kyra Spiwak was the lone Friar in double figures, with 10 points. It marked her third double-digit game of the season through five contests.

IMPRESSIVE SHOOTING FUELS BIG WIN OVER BUTLER... Junior Alyssa Geary's improvement throughout the 2019-20 season was evident as she reached double figures in the scoring column in seven of the Friars' final 13 games. She has taken that improvement to another level in 2020-21, and is among the team leaders in nearly every statistical category. She currently ranks third on the team in scoring (9.5 ppg) and rebounding (4.3 rpg), second in blocks (1.7 bpg) and assists (3.5 apg).
