PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's hockey team defeated the University of Connecticut Huskies, 6-2, in its first game of the season in Schneider Arena on Saturday, Nov. 21.
After trailing 1-0, the Friars rallied for five-consecutive strikes to take a 5-1 lead and eventually close the game out by the 6-2 final.

Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) got the Friars on the board at the 11:29 mark of the first period on a power play with an assist from
Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) to bring the to score 1-1. Hjalmarsson won the face-off in the offensive zone dishing the puck back to Becker, who took a slapshot to earn her first collegiate goal.

Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) put Providence in the lead with just 48 seconds left in the first period with a pass from
Hunter Barnett (Caledon, Ontario).
-The Friars converted on their second power play of the night at 14:05 in the second period. Providence used just 24 seconds on its 5-on-3 advantage to find the back of the net.
Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston Maine), a top scorer from last season, delivered the speedy top-shelf shot with a pass from
Chloe Gonsalves (Toronto, Ontario).

Annelise Rice (Excelsior, Minn.) was the next to increase Providence's lead against the Huskies with the goal at the start of the third period with an assist from
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario). Rice came around the back of the net to score off of a loose puck near the crease and bring the score to 4-1.

Sara Hjalmarsson, the top scorer from last season, earned her first goal of the year off a rebound from
Delaney Couture (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and
Lauren DeBlois) less than a minute later.
-UConn broke PC's five unanswered goals with less than four minutes left in the final period. The goal was returned by the Friars less than 30 seconds later by
Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) with an assist from
Ariane Julien (Saint Hyacinthe, Quebec).
-Abstreiter posted 30 saves in the victory, making multiple game-saving stops down the stretch.
-Providence finished the game 2-for-3 on the power play with a total of five shots with the man-advantage. Connecticut recorded 11 shots on net in its six power-play chances, only capitalizing on one.
