PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College junior field hockey player
Maddie Babineau (Milton, Ontario) has been named to Canada's Phase-3 Women's Indoor National Team roster and will represent her country in a tour to Minsk, Belarus on Jan. 16-25.
The National Indoor Team competes with intent to qualify for the FIH Indoor World Cup, and Phase-3 recently began with a selection camp held on Nov. 30-Dec. 1 in Toronto, Canada. The third phase will run through the end of March 2020 and includes a tour to Belarus (Jan. 16-25), participation in the Canadian Indoor Classic (Feb. 15-16) and participation at the Indoor Pan American Games (Mar. 17-22).
Babineau has competed for Field Hockey Canada at various levels during her career as part of their Women's Indoor National Squad, Women's Junior Development Team, U-21 Indoor Team, U-18 Indoor Team and U-18 (2016, 2017) and U-16 (2014, 2015) Team Ontario squads.
Since arriving at Providence College in 2017, Babineau has started all 57 games during her career in the Friars' midfield. In three seasons, she has recorded 26 points on six goals and 14 assists. Babineau has earned All-BIG EAST Second-Team honors with the Friars (2018) and is a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection (2018, 2019) and NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad honoree (2018).
