PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team meets Albany in its first road game of the season. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on September 6 at Varsity Field in Albany, N.Y. The Friars will take on Rhode Island in their second road game of the season on Monday, September 9 at 7:00 p.m. in Kingston, R.I.

Scouting the Great Danes
Albany opened its 2019 season with two losses on the road. The Great Danes fell to Kentucky, 3-2. Their journey on the road continued at Cincinnati where they lost, 2-1. Albany entered the season voted sixth in the America East Preseason Poll by the conference's coaches. Austin DaSilva, Hugo Guerra and Alex Bourgeois lead the team in points (two), each scoring a goal. Kaio DaSilva and Haflidi Sigurdarson both have a point from an assist. In net, Isac Hjerten has played both games. He holds a 2.50 goals against average and a .545 save percentage.
Scouting the Rams
Rhode Island started its season at home with a tie (1-1) against Fairfield. On Tuesday night, the Rams fell to No. 23 Connecticut, 3-1. Four Rams have accumulated points through the first two games. Stavros Zarokostas leads the team in points (three) with a goal and assist. Simon Trcka recorded two points with a goal. Ludvik Benco and Filippo Tamburini both have tallied an assist giving them a point each. In net, Stefan Schmidt holds a 1.80 goals against average and a .667 save percentage. Rhode Island was selected to finish third in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches' Poll with three first place votes.
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are coming off a 2-1 loss at home against New Hampshire (Sept. 2). They defeated UMass Lowell, 4-0, in their home opener on Aug. 30. Five Friars have accumulated points in the first two games.
Trevor Davock (Medway, Mass.) and
Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass.) lead the pack with four points. Both Davock and Davis scored a goal and gathered two assists.
Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal),
Andualem Chisholm (Attleboro, Mass.) and
Joao Serrano (Evora, Portugal) all recorded two points from scoring a goal. In net,
Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) has started both games. He holds a 1.07 goals against average and a .600 save percentage.
Outshooting Opponents
The Friars have outshot their opponents 28-11 in the first two games. Providence held UMass Lowell to seven shots and New Hampshire to four.
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence's roster welcomes nine newcomers to the squad for the 2019 season. Five of the nine have seen action for the Friars. Transfers,
Trevor Davock and
Davis Smith started the first two games and lead the team in points.
Austin Aviza has started both games in net and has only allowed 2 goals in his debut for the Friars.
Esben Wolf (Copenhagen, Denmark) has started both games thus far totaling 142 minutes.
Gage Raftery (Seattle, Wash) and
Lukas Rodwald (Wiesbaden, Germany) have also seen minutes for the Friars.
Preseason Poll and Awards
Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) of the Providence College men's soccer program was voted to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
Providence was voted to finish third in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll. Georgetown, the reigning tournament champion, was selected to finish first with nine first place votes (81 points). Creighton, who finished first in regular season play last season, was picked second (68 points). Providence (65 points), Marquette (59 points) and Xavier (44 points) round out the top half of the poll. Butler (40 points), St. John's (33 points), Seton Hall (28 points), DePaul (21 points) and Villanova (11 points) finish out the standings.
