PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College senior forward
Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for field hockey on Sept. 30. It marked the second-straight week that Mendez earned weekly recognition from the league and fourth time in her career.
Mendez, a 2018 All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, tallied the game-winning goal to help Providence defeat Temple, 1-0, in BIG EAST regular-season action on Sept. 27. She attempted two shots against the Owls, and both were on target. Mendez has scored in five of the Friars' nine games this season, including both of Providence's BIG EAST matches.
Mendez leads the Friars in scoring with 12 points on five goals and two assists. She is three points shy of her single-season career high of 15 points (7g/1a), which she recorded in 19 games during the 2018 campaign.
Providence (5-4, 1-1 BIG EAST) returns to action on Friday, Oct. 4 against BIG EAST foe Villanova. The game will be played in Conshohocken, Pa. at 6:00 p.m.
