Lydia Rice Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Rice posted a 1-1 record last week after opening season vs. two nationally-ranked opponents.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– Providence College graduate student Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for field hockey on Monday, Sept. 2. The Friars' goalkeeper earns Honor Roll recognition for the second time in her career, in addition to claiming BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week accolades on two occasions. 
 
Rice, a 2018 All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, posted a 1-1 record to open the season after facing two nationally-ranked opponents. She recorded five saves against 13th-ranked Boston College in a 2-1 loss to open the 2019 campaign. She closed the weekend with a season-high seven saves against 24th-ranked Maine in a 5-4 overtime victory.  She faced a total of 18 shots in the game and also saved a penalty-stroke opportunity in the third quarter.
 
The Friars will host a pair of games this weekend against intra-state rivals Bryant (Sept. 6) and Brown (Sept. 8). Both matches will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I.
