PROVIDENCE, R.I.– It was announced today [June 26] that
Millie Paladino '19 (Morgantown, W. Va.) has been nominated for the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year Award by Providence College.  The NCAA released the names of all 585 nominees, spanning all three divisions (NCAA Division I, II and III), with Paladino featured among the list of 262 Division I candidates.
Â
Established in 1991, the NCAA Woman of the Year Award recognizes graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.
Â
The nominees competed in 23 different sports across all three NCAA divisions, including 262 from Division I, 131 from Division II and 192 from Division III. Multisport student-athletes account for 144 of the nominees.
Â
Next, conferences will select up to two nominees each from the pool of institutional nominees. Then, the Woman of the Year selection committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the Top 30 honorees — 10 from each division.
Â
The selection committee will determine the top three honorees from each division from the Top 30 and announce the nine finalists in September. From those nine finalists, the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then will choose the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year. The Top 30 honorees will be honored and the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year will be named at the annual award ceremony Oct. 20 in Indianapolis.
Â
Paladino is a five-time All-American and three-time BIG EAST Individual Champion for the Friars' track program. She also was honored nine times as an All-BIG EAST performer, spanning cross country (twice), indoor track (six times) and outdoor track (once).  In 2016, she helped the women's cross country team earn its eighth BIG EAST Cross Country Championship.
Â
In her final year with the Friars (2018-19), she competed exclusively in indoor and outdoor track, earning Northeast Region Female Athlete of the Year honors (indoor) and capturing the BIG EAST individual title in the 3,000 meters (indoor).  She also took home First-Team All-America honors in the mile (indoor) and Second-Team All-America recognition in the 1,500 meters (outdoor).
Â
Additionally, Paladino ran the 12
th-fastest 1,000-meter time in collegiate history during the 2018-19 indoor track season (2:42.13) at the Boston University Terrier Classic, setting the New England collegiate record and Providence College record in the event.
Â
Paladino was selected as the Providence College Female Athlete of the Year during each of her final two seasons in Friartown (2018, 2019). Â
