PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced today (April 30) that freshman Jared Bynum (Largo, Md.) and junior Noah Horchler (Melbourne, Fla.) each has signed a scholarship offer to attend Providence College in 2019-20. As undergraduate transfers, Bynum and Horchler will be eligible to practice with the team in 2019-20 and compete for the Friars in 2020-21. Bynum will have three seasons of eligibility and Horchler will have one season of eligibility remaining.
Bynum, who played for Saint Joseph's in 2018-19, averaged 11.3 points, 4.4 assists and 3.6 rebounds while starting all 33 games for the Hawks. He also played a team-high 1,209 minutes (36.6 mpg). Bynum led the team in assists and was third on the squad in scoring. Bynum, who was named A-10 Rookie of the Week on December 3, led the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.3). The 5-10 point guard scored 16 or more points eight times in 2018-19, including a season-high 23 points in a win at Princeton on December 5, 2018. Prior to attending Saint Joseph's, Bynum graduated from Georgetown Prep in Bethesda, Md., where he earned All-Met First Team and All-Conference honors as a senior after averaging 17.5 points and 6.0 assists per game.
Horchler spent the last two seasons (sophomore and junior years) playing for the University of North Florida after playing in the junior college ranks at Eastern Florida State College in 2016-17 as a freshman. In 61 career games at North Florida, Horchler averaged 13.7 points and 9.0 rebounds, while shooting 54.3 percent from the field. In 2018-19, he led the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.0 ppg and 9.3 rpg. For his efforts, he was named NABC All-District Second Team. Horchler led the conference in rebounding (9.3) and he finished fourth in the ASUN in scoring (16.0). In his sophomore season, he was first on the team in rebounding (8.6) and third in scoring (11.7). Horchler was named 2018 ASUN Newcomer of the Year and he also earned ASUN Second Team All-Conference accolades in 2018.
