Michael Wyman Earns BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

NEW YORK, N.Y. –The BIG EAST announced its weekly track and field awards on Monday, Mar. 25. Graduate student Michael Wyman (Marion, Mass.) was named the Men's BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week for his performance at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge on Friday, Mar. 15.
 
Wyman finished first overall in the men's 1,500 meters clocking a time of 3:47.86 at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge in Orlando, Fla.Wyman took the lead from the gun and kept a strong pace. He would be challenged with two laps to go, but sat behind until the final lap. Wyman made a huge surge with 400 meters to go to take the victory and record a three second personal best. His time lists ninth nationally and tops in the BIG EAST by nearly four seconds. 
 
Senior Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Western Australia) was also recognized as notable performer for her race on Friday, Mar. 15. Ilarda won the 2,000 meter steeplechase at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge in a time of 6:26.52, 44 seconds ahead of second place. 
 
The Providence College men's and women's teams will be back in action on Friday and Saturday (Mar. 29-30), to compete at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. and Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
