Providence sweeps the season series with the Bulldogs.

INDIANAPOLIS, IND.– The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Butler, 66-63, in overtime on Feb. 17 at Hinkle Fieldhouse. It marked the third-straight overtime game between the two teams, as Providence improved to 16-11 on the year and 8-7 in the BIG EAST.  Butler falls to 19-6 overall (9-5 BIG EAST).

The Bulldogs started the game with five-straight points, but the Friars settled in offensively to gain a one-point advantage after the first 10 minutes of play (17-16).  Maddie Jolin (Rehoboth, Mass.) tallied seven points in the opening quarter to lead Providence.

Butler took a 33-30 lead into the locker room at halftime after out-scoring the Friars, 17-13, in the second quarter.

Overall in the first half, there were six lead changes and the ballgame was tied five times.  Butler managed the largest lead of the half at the start of the game (5-0). Providence was able to attack the rim for a 10-4 edge on the scoreboard in fast break points, but the Bulldogs used a 21-11 edge on the glass to out-score Providence 8-2 in second-chance points.

Providence shot 50-percent from the floor in the third quarter and out-scored the Bulldogs, 16-13, to tie the game heading into the final frame.  The Friars gained their largest lead of the game with 8:33 remaining in the fourth quarter (51-46), but the two teams battled down the stretch and went to overtime for the third-straight meeting.

The Friars never trailed in the extra session in part to their solid defensive effort, which was present for the majority of the game.

Jovana Nogic (Belgrade, Serbia) paced the Friars with 20 points on 7-14 shooting from the field, including a 6-9 performance from beyond the arc. It marked her second-straight 20-point game, having tallied 22 in the Friars' recent victory over Xavier on Feb. 15. Her six three-pointers move her into a tie for second place all-time in the BIG EAST record books, with Brittany Hrynko (DePaul, 2011-15), as she now has 165 triples in her career during regular-season league play.

Jolin finished the game with 13 points, four rebounds and one assist.  She also collected a game-high five steals.  Freshman forward Mary Baskerville (Enfield, Conn.) tallied 12 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds before taking a seat with her fifth foul during the overtime session.  Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) played a solid game off the bench, giving Providence eight points and a game-high four assists.

Whitney Jennings and Kristen Spolyar combined to score 45 of Butler's 63 points, while Tori Schickel notched 10 points and a game-high 19 boards.
