Friars will head to Yale to complete the final 20 minutes of their game which was suspended at halftime on Nov. 5.
FRIARS RETURN TO YALE TO COMPLETE SUSPENDED GAME... The Friars will head to New Haven, Conn. on Tuesday, Dec. 3 to complete the final 20 minutes of action against the Yale Bulldogs. On Nov. 5, the two teams met to open the 2019-20 season, but the game was suspended at halftime due to a clock/scoreboard malfunction. Providence held a 42-33 lead when the game was halted. The contest will resume with 10 minutes left in the third quarter.
FIRST HALF / ONLY HALF: Sophomores Mary Baskerville and Kaela Webb each scored 12 points to pace the Friars' offense in the opening 20 minutes of the game against Yale to provide PC with a 42-33 lead at halftime. Providence shot 58.6-percent from the floor (17-29), including 41.7-percent from three-point territory (5-12). The Friars recorded 10 assists on their 17 made field goals. Baskerville and junior Olivia Orlando led the Friars in rebounding with six and five boards, respectively. Defensively, Providence held the Ivy League's top-returning scorer, Roxy Barahman, to 0-6 shooting from the field and just two points on a pair of free throws. Providence committed 15 personal fouls in the first half, which sent Yale to the free throw line 19 times. Thirteen of the Bulldogs' 33 points came from the charity stripe.
PROVIDENCE IMPROVES TO 5-0... The Friars improved to 5-0 with their most recent win against UMass Lowell (63-38) on Nov. 24. It marks the second time Providence has started the season 5-0 under the direction of fourth-year Head Coach Jim Crowley. In his first season on the sidelines in 2016-17, he guided the Friars to a 7-0 start. Providence's seven-straight wins to begin that campaign marked the program's best start since the 1990-91 team also began the year 7-0.
UNBEATEN... Providence remains the only unbeaten team in the BIG EAST this season. Through games played Dec. 1, the Friars are one of 18 teams that remain unbeaten in NCAA Division I women's basketball.
SCOUTING YALE... The Bulldogs are currently 5-2 on the season and coming off of a 2-1 West Coast trip, which started with a 100-65 loss to UCLA on Nov. 26. Yale rebounded to take back-to-back wins over Fresno State (87-67) on Nov. 29 and a 81-65 win against Loyola Marymount (81-65) on Nov. 30. Through seven games, three Bulldogs are averaging in double figures, led by Roxy Barahman's 17.0 points per game. Camilla Emsbo (16.4 ppg) and Ellen Margaret Andrews (14.0 ppg) round out the top three scoring threats. Emsbo is averaging a double-double with a team-best 10.3 boards per game.
FRIARS RANK THIRD IN THE NATION IN THREE-POINT PERCENTAGE... The Friars are currently ranked third in the nation in three-point field goal percentage, having converted 42-92 attempts from beyond the arc (.457). Holy Cross is ranked No 1 in three-point percentage (.494, 39-79), while Grand Canyon is ranked second (.473, 35-74).
THREE-POINT THREATS... Kyra Spiwak and Kaela Webb have been the catalysts for Providence beyond the arc. Spiwak leads the BIG EAST and ranks second in the nation in three-point percentage (.583, 14-24). Webb is shooting .488 from three-point territory (20-41). She leads the BIG EAST and ranks third in the nation in three-point field goals made per game (4.00).
DOUBLE DIGITS... Six different players on the roster have scored in double figures this season. Sophomore Kaela Webb is the only Friar to reach double digits in the scoring column in each of Providence's five games this season. She is second on the team in scoring with an average of 15.2 points per game, including a career-high 22 points against UMass on Nov. 9.
OLIVIA ORLANDO PROVIDES SOLID PRESENCE... Olivia Orlando has started all five games for Providence this season and is providing a solid presence for her club on both sides of the ball. She is averaging just 4.4 points per game, but ranks second on the team in rebounding (6.2 rpg), tied for first in steals (1.8 spg), third in assists (3.2 apg) and first in assist/turnover ratio (2.29). She also leads the team in offensive rebounds (11) and is the only Friar in double-digits in that category.
EARLETTE SCOTT SHOWING FLASHES... Earlette Scott has had an impressive three-game stretch for the Friars in wins over Boston College, Monmouth and UMass Lowell. In those three games, she has combined to shoot an efficient 7-14 from the field (.500), while averaging 7.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game. She scored eight points and hauled in a career-high eight boards against Boston College. Scott followed with four points, five boards and a career-high eight assists against Monmouth. Most recently, she tallied a season-high 10 points against UMass Lowell, marking just the second double-digit scoring game of her career. She also hit the first three-point buckets with the Friars, finishing the game 2-3 from deep.
MARY BASKERVILLE AVERAGING JUST SHY OF A DOUBLE-DOUBLE... Through two games that she has played, sophomore Mary Baskerville is averaging 15.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. She opened the season with a double-double against UMass (Nov. 9) and followed with a team-high 18 points and eight rebounds against Hartford (Nov. 13). Baskerville has averaged just 21.0 minutes of action per game. She has missed the Friars' last three games with an injury.
KAELA WEBB NAMED TO BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL IN BACK-TO-BACK WEEKS... Sophomore Kaela Webb was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll in back-to-back weeks to start the season (Nov. 11 and Nov. 18). It marks her first appearances on the league's weekly honor roll, having previously been recognized among the weekly award winners as BIG EAST Freshman of the Week last season (Jan. 21). Webb is currently averaging 15.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
FRIARS CLAIM LARGEST MARGIN OF VICTORY THIS SEASON AGAINST UMASS LOWELL... Providence defeated UMass Lowell, 63-38, in its most recent game on Nov. 24. It marked the Friars' largest margin of victory this season (+25).
FRIARS HEAT UP FROM DEEP AGAINST UMASS LOWELL... On Nov. 24 against UMass Lowell, the Friars started the game 4-15 from beyond the arc through the first 20 minutes of play.
PROVIDENCE WINS THIRD-STRAIGHT GAME OVER BOSTON COLLEGE... The Friars defeated Boston College, 76-70, on Nov. 17 in Providence, R.I. It marked the third-straight victory over the Eagles in the all-time series. The last time Providence won three-straight games against Boston College dates back to the 1991-92 through 1992-93 seasons.
PROVIDENCE DOMINATES THE GLASS AGAINST HARTFORD... The Friars out-rebounded Hartford, 41-23, on Nov. 13 en route to a 75-57 victory. Providence held its opponent to 23 rebounds, marking the lowest total by an opponent since Jan. 27, 2017, when the Friars allowed just 22 boards to Marquette. It also marks the largest rebounding margin for the Friars since holding a +19 advantage on the boards against Sacred Heart on Nov. 21, 2018.Â
CROWLEY PICKS UP 300th NCAA DIVISION I HEAD COACHING VICTORY... Providence College Head Coach Jim Crowley picked up his 300th NCAA Division I victory on Nov. 9 as the Friars defeated UMass, 72-63. Crowley compiled 258 NCAA Division I wins in 16 seasons at St. Bonaventure (2000-16) and currently owns 46 wins at Providence in his fourth season with the program.Â
FRIARS PICKED TO FINISH TIED FOR FIFTH IN BIG EAST PRESEASON COACHES' POLL... Providence College was picked to finish in a tie for fifth place in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, released on Oct. 10 at Madison Square Garden as part of the league's annual media day event.Â
MARY BASKERVILLE NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST AS ONE OF FOUR UNANIMOUS SELECTIONS... Sophomore Mary Baskerville was a unanimous selection to the 2019-20 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, announced at the league's annual media day at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 10. She earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Year accolades at the conclusion of the 2018-19 season, in addition to a unanimous selection to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team. She is just the second player in program history to earn BIG EAST Freshman of the Year recognition, and first since Friar great Tracy Lis '92 was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Year in 1989. Baskerville also was a five-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, marking the most freshman of the week honors in program history. As a rookie, Baskerville averaged 9.5 points per game and led the Friars in rebounding (7.3 rpg), blocked shots (1.5 bpg), double-doubles (six) and field-goal percentage (.580, 141-243). She established program records for blocked shots (53) and field-goal percentage (.580) for a freshman. Additionally, her .580 field-goal percentage was the second-highest for a single-season in program history overall, trailing Elizabeth Lawlor's shooting clip of .581 (193-332) during the 1988-89 season.
MOST WINS IN BIG EAST PLAY SINCE 1996-97... The Friars completed the 2018-19 regular-season schedule with an 8-10 mark in the BIG EAST Conference and finished in tie for sixth place in the league standings. The Friars' eight wins were the most in conference play since 1996-97, when Providence also finished with an 8-10 mark. It marked just the fourth time in the last 20 years that the Friars have recorded six or more victories in league play.Â

HEAD COACH JIM CROWLEY IN POST-SEASON PLAY... Jim Crowley guided the Friars to their first post-season appearance since 2010, having earned a bid to the 2019 Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). The Friars claimed wins over Hartford (71-54) and Penn (64-54), before falling to Georgetown (53-46) in the Round of 16. Prior to his arrival on Smith Hill, Crowley led St. Bonaventure to four WNIT appearances and two NCAA Tournament berths. Crowley is 10-7 all-time in post-season play, including a 7-5 mark in the WNIT. Crowley is 2-1 in the postseason as head coach at Providence College.
FRIARS IN OVERTIME GAMES UNDER JIM CROWLEY... Providence is 5-4 in overtime games under the direction of Head Coach Jim Crowley, including a 3-0 mark last season (2018-19). The Friars are 3-3 vs. BIG EAST opponents in overtime.
ROAD WARRIORS... The Friars are scheduled to play 12 of their first 14 games on the road, with a 13th trip added to the schedule to complete the Yale game on Dec. 3. Providence is currently 3-0 on the road this season.
WHAT'S NEXT... The Friars will return to action on Dec. 7-8 at the 4th Annual Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament, which will be hosted by Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. Providence opens the tournament against Bryant on Dec. 7 at Noon. The Friars will face either Rhode Island or Brown on Dec. 8 as part of the consolation game at Noon or championship game at 2:00 p.m.
