Trevor Davock’s Golden Goal Seals 3-2 Comeback Victory Over Penn State In Overtime

Davock tallied a game-high four points with two assists and one goal.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.  – Trevor Davock (Medway, Mass.) sent the Providence College men's soccer team to the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament after scoring the golden goal in the 95th minute to beat the Penn State Nittany Lions, 3-2, on Sunday, Nov. 24. The Friars improve their record to 16-6-0, which ties the program record of wins in a season. This marks the program's third Round of 16 appearance in the last five years. The Friars improve to 11-7-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, including an 8-3-1 mark under Head Coach Craig Stewart.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- The two sides played to a scoreless first half after an impressive defensive effort by Providence holding Penn State to just one shot. The Friars posted five shots in the half.
- Penn State opened the scoring with two goals within five minutes to take a 2-0 lead early in the second half. Aaron Molloy converted on a shot from the top of the eighteen-yard box in the 50th minute before Kyle May finished a shot on the edge of the six-yard box.
- Providence responded on Esben Wolf's (Copenhage, Denmark) fifth goal of the season just one minute later to cut the deficit to 2-1. Davock picked off a pass on the right sideline before delivering a cross to Wolf on the back post that he finished with his left foot.
- Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) sent the game to overtime with his third goal of the season in the 86thminute. Davock beat the defender on the end line before sliding a pass to Mendonca just left of the penalty mark. Mendonca ripped his shot to the bottom left corner past the goalkeeper.
- The Friars wasted no time in OT with Davock scoring the game-winner in the 95th minute. Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal) lofted a ball over the back line to Davock on the right corner of the six-yard box, Davock settled and rocketed a shot off the right post and in.
- Davock's golden goal was his second of the season as Providence improves to 3-0 in overtime games this season.
- Providence outshot Penn State 13-10 and earned four corner kicks compared to the Nittany Lions' five.
- Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) earned all five of his saves in the second half, turning away multiple efforts with diving saves.
- Davock recorded four points on the night, assisting the opening two goals before scoring the golden goal.
