Women's Basketball Defeats Assumption In Exhibition Game, 80-57

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Assumption, 80-57, in an exhibition game on Oct. 30 in Providence, R.I.
 
1st QUARTER:
• Assumption hit a three-point bucket to start the game, but the Friars responded with a 6-0 run during a span of 1:38 to take 6-3 lead. 
• The Friars trailed 14-10 with 1:14 remaining in the quarter before going on another 6-0 spurt to take a 16-14 advantage with just under three seconds remaining.
• The Greyhounds hit a long heave from just inside mid-court as time expired to give them a 17-16 lead at the break.
 
2nd QUARTER:
• Providence used a 9-0 run late in the second quarter to go ahead 32-27 and force an Assumption timeout with 2:38 on the clock.
Alyssa Geary (Elmhurst, Ill.) kept the run going with an impressive up-and-under on the Friars' next possession (34-27).
• The Greyhounds finally halted the Friars' 11-0 run with a free-throw (:29), but sophomore Kaela Webb (Pontiac, Mich.) answered back with a three-pointer at the other end (:23) to send Providence to the locker room with a 37-28 lead.
Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) paced the Friars with eight points and three assists in the first half. 
• Nine Friars cracked the scoring column in the first half over and combined to shoot 48.0-percent from the floor (12-25).
 
3rd QUARTER:
• Providence started the third quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 43-28 lead. 
• Assumption converted a traditional three-point play on the other end with 7:00 minutes on the clock, but Webb answered with her third three of the game to help PC regain the 15-point lead.
• The Friars extended their lead to 20 (60-40) with 1:24 remaining in the stanza.
• Williams, Webb and senior Ny-Asia Franklin (East Orange, N.J.) each scored five points in the quarter, combining for 15 of Providence's 23 points overall.
 
4th QUARTER:
• The Friars maintained a cushion of more than 20 points throughout the remainder of the game. 
• Providence built its largest lead (77-52) with 2:17 left on the clock.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
• Williams paced three Friars in double figures with 15 points. She also added three assists, three rebounds and one steal.
• Webb finished the night with 13 points, four boards, two assists and was one of three players with two steals.
• Geary rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points on 5-6 shooting from the field.
Olivia Orlando (Georgetown, Mass.) led Providence in rebounding with six rebounds.
• Providence shot 50.9-percent from the field for the game (29-57), compared to Assumptions 36.5-percent from the floor (19-52).
 
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
•The Friars will officially open the 2019-20 schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 5 against Yale University in New Haven, Conn. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. Providence will play 12 of its first 14 games on the road. The Friars will be back at Alumni Hall to host Boston College in their home opener on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1:00 p.m.
