Diallo is one of 20 candidates on the watch list.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -  It was announced today (Oct. 16) by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame that Providence College senior forward Alpha Diallo (New York, N.Y.) was named to the 2020 Julius Erving Award Watch List.  The annual award recognizes the top small forward in Division I men's basketball.  A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.

New to the award this season is Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies in each of the three rounds. By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2020 Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award will be narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Mr. Erving and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2020 Julius Erving Award will be presented at The College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, CA on Friday, April 10, 2020, along with the other four members of the Men's Starting Five.

Last week, Diallo was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team.  The senior forward was a unanimous selection to the team.  He finished the 2018-19 season as a Second Team All-BIG EAST honoree.  Diallo had a strong junior season in which he averaged 16.0 points and 8.1 rebounds.  His 8.1 rebounds ranked second in the BIG EAST in overall action.  Diallo was ninth in scoring and he was tied for first in the league in double-doubles with 10.  He led the Friars in assists with 3.1 per game and he recorded a team-best 10 game in 2018-19 with 20 or more points.

For his career, Diallo has recorded 1,155 career points in 99 games (11.7 ppg).  He became the 50th player in Friar history to score 1,000 or more career points.  Diallo ranks 33rd all-time in scoring at Providence.

In August, Diallo helped lead Team USA to Bronze Medal at the Pan Am Games.  He led the team in scoring (15.0 ppg) and rebounding 5.6 (rpg).

The Friars, who return all five starters, finished 2018-19 with an 18-16 mark and a 7-11 record in league play.  PC finished last season in eighth place and the squad also advanced to the NIT where it was defeated by Arkansas in the First Round. Providence will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 with the team's first exhibition game versus Stonehill College at 3 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.  The Friars will open the season on Tuesday, Nov. 5 versus Sacred Heart at 7:00 p.m. on FSN.

Tickets for all Friar games can be purchased Monday-Friday at the PC Ticket Office, by calling 401-865-GO PC or online at friars.com.
