PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Georgetown, 68-52, on Jan. 4 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Friars dropped to 8-7 overall (0-3 BIG EAST), while the Hoyas improved to 8-6 (2-1 BIG EAST).

Providence started on a 10-0 run beginning with 1:13 left in the first quarter to take an 18-13 lead with 7:41 on the clock in the second quarter.  The highlight of the Friars' run came as freshman Alyssa Geary (Elmhurst, Ill.) drained a three-pointer in transition as time expired in the first. The Hoyas used an 11-2 advantage in points off of turnovers in the second half to gain a 28-26 lead at halftime.

Providence hit their first five shots to start the third quarter, including four three pointers to take a 42-36 lead. A 7-0 run by the Hoyas late in the quarter provided a 45-43 lead with 32-seconds left on the clock.  Senior Maddie Jolin (Rehoboth, Mass.) sank a pair of free throws with seven seconds remaining to tie the game, 45-45, heading into the final frame.

Georgetown opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run in the first two minutes of action to take a 52-45 lead and force a Providence timeout. The Hoyas' run continued out of the break with six-consecutive points to make it an 13-0 run (57-45).

Jovana Nogic (Belgrade, Serbia) finally got the Friars on the board with 5:34 left in the game on a spinning shot in the lane, but the Hoyas answered right back on their next possession to lead 60-47 heading into the media timeout (4:28).

Ultimately, the Friars were out-scored 23-7 in the final 10 minutes of play, allowing the Hoyas to take the 16-point victory.

Nogic paced Providence with 15 points and added five rebounds and a team-high two assists. Jolin contributed 11 points, while freshman Kaela Webb (Pontiac, Mich.) chipped in 10 points and a team-high two steals.  Freshman Mary Baskerville (Enfield, Conn.) led the Friars on the boards with nine rebounds.

Georgetown got a double-double from Dorothy Adomako on 20 points and 12 boards.  Dionna White led all scorers with 24 points.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, Jan. 6 against BIG EAST foe Villanova at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.  Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports Go.
