NEW YORK, N.Y. –The BIG EAST announced its weekly track and field awards on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Graduate student
Michael Wyman (Marion, Mass.) was named the Men's BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Penn Eight-Team Select Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 19.
Wyman finished first overall in the men's mile clocking a time of 4:05.77 at the Penn Eight-Team Select Challenge in Staten Island, N.Y.He pulled away in the last 250 meters to take the win against a competitive field. Wyman's time leads the BIG EAST mile list and is 31st in the NCAA this season.
Graduate student Regan Rome (Dalla, Pa.) was also recognized as notable performer for her race this past weekend. Rome won the 3,000 meters at the Penn Eight-Team Select Challenge on Saturday with a time of 9:40.65, 16 seconds ahead of second place. Rome's time is third in the BIG EAST and 38th nationally this season.
The Providence College men's and women's teams will be back in action on Friday (Jan. 25) and Saturday (Jan. 26), to compete in the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston, Mass.
