KANSAS CITY, MO. – The Providence College volleyball team defeated Southeast Missouri State, 3-2, on Saturday, Sept. 8 in Kansas City, Mo. The Friars will return to action tonight in the final match of the tournament against host UMKC at 7:00 p.m. (ET).
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
- Providence defeated Southeast Missouri State 3-2
- The Friars battled back and forth in all five sets, but closed out the action in the final set 15-12
- As a team, Providence recorded 71 kills, 63 assists, 90 digs, and four total team blocks
- The Friars attack was led by Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) with 23 kills, to lead all players in the match
- Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.), Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Sarah Daneliak (Naperville, Ill.) all tallied double-digit kills to contribute to the Friars offense with 15, 12 and 10 kills, respectively
- Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) recorded a double-double totaling 53 assists and 14 digs
- Barber also led all players in the match in assists (53)
- Defensive specialist Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) tallied 36 digs, leading all players in the match
- Kara Mason (Boca Raton, Fla.), Barber and Alderson all contributed to the Friars defense, recording double-digit digs (16, 14 and 11)
WHAT'S NEXT: Providence will complete play at the Kangaroo Classic with a match-up against UMKC at 7:00 p.m. (ET). The Friars will then return home to Providence, R.I. to host Bryant University on Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m.
