KANSAS CITY, MO. – Providence College volleyball defeated SIUE in the first match of the Kangaroo Classic, 3-0, on Sept. 7. The Friars fell to Arkansas State in the second match of the Kangaroo Classic, 0-3. Providence returns to action on Sept. 8 to play two final matches against Southeast Missouri State at 11:00 a.m. (ET) and UMKC at 7:00 p.m. (ET).
SIUE MATCH HIGHTLIGHTS:
- The Friars won in straight sets against the SIUE Cougars (3-0)
- Providence took set one, 25-23, set two, 26-24, and set three, 25-15
- As a team, Providence recorded 43 kills, 41 assists, 42 digs and eight total team blocks
- Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) recorded a double-double tallying 32 assists and 11 digs, to lead all players in the match
ARKANSAS STATE MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
- Providence dropped the match to Arkansas State 0-3
- The Friars battled back and forth in all three sets, but the Red Wolves closed out the action in each set (25-21, 25-18, 25-20)
- As a team, Providence recorded 32 kills, 30 assists, 39 digs and 10 total team blocks
- Impellizeri led the Friars attack with 10 kills hitting a .444 percentage
- Setter Barber contributed to the Providence offense with 25 assists and finished second on the team with seven digs
- Taylor led the Friars on defense recording 11 digs
- Providence tallied twice as many total team blocks than Arkansas State
WHAT'S NEXT: Providence will return to action for the final day of the Kangaroo Classic on Saturday, Sept. 8. The Friars will face Southeast Missouri State at 11:00 a.m. (ET), followed by a match-up against host UMKC at 7:00 p.m. (ET).
